Nancy Vanderford Obituary
Nancy Kay Vanderford, 59, of Gold Hill, Oregon, passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.
Nancy was the beloved daughter of the late C. O'Neil Shreve and Adell Cartwright (Batson). She was born on December 29, 1965, in Contra Costa County, California. She graduated from Vacaville High School in California in 1988 and went on to earn her Master's Degree in Infant and Childhood Development, with a passion for nurturing young lives.
Throughout her career, Nancy dedicated herself to supporting underprivileged communities and individuals. She spent years working in a teenage mother's program, providing daycare assistance and mentorship to young mothers. Later, she offered early intervention support services for children with autism and other disabilities, making a significant impact on the lives of many families. Before retiring, Nancy served with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, where she supported disabled veterans with unwavering compassion.
Nancy's love for music, especially bands like Metallica, and her admiration for classic cars, particularly her cherished 1967 Ford Mustang, were a testament to her vibrant spirit. She lived in various places, including Vacaville, Ashland, and Medford, Oregon, where she raised her daughter, Jessica. In 2006, she married the love of her life, Don Vanderford, and together they created a beautiful life in Gold Hill.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Don Vanderford; her daughter, Jessica (John) Hornick; her beloved grandchildren, Aria and August and her sister Connie.
Nancy is preceded in death by her parents.
Nancy's legacy of empathy, kindness, and dedication to others will forever resonate through her family and all those whose lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
A celebration of Nancy's life will be held at a later date, likely in the spring or summer months. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to organizations supporting early childhood development and veterans' services, reflecting Nancy's lifelong commitment to helping others.
