Ashli Hoos Obituary

Ashli Hoos
Grand Island resident, 52
GRAND ISLAND - Ashli Suzanne (Holsten) Hoos, 52, of Grand Island, passed away at home surrounded by loved ones in the early hours of October 27, 2023 after a fearless battle against brain cancer.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, November 6, 2023 at the First Presbyterian Church in Grand Island, Nebraska with Pastor Kevin Geurink officiating. The funeral service will be livestreamed at https://www.facebook.com/gipresby. Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, November 5th at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island, Nebraska.
Ashli was born on March 8, 1971 to Kent and Susan (Berry) Holsten in Minden, Nebraska. Ashli grew up in Kearney and Grand Island and was big sister to Ryan, Kenzie, and Brynne. From a young age, her smile lit up the room. Growing up, she enjoyed spending time at Harlan County Reservoir with her family. She graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1989.
During her senior year of high school, Ashli met the love of her life, Joey Hoos. Ashli worked for St. Francis Medical Center and CHI Health for the last 25 years. During her battle with cancer, her employees wrote notes of encouragement and shared how she had positively impacted them.
Ashli graduated from the University of Nebraska at Kearney, where she was a proud member of Alpha Omicron Pi. Ashli went on to become a Registered Dietitian and Licensed Medical Nutrition Therapist. After graduation, Ashli and Joe were married on August 10, 1996 at the First Presbyterian Church in Grand Island. They were blessed with three children, Haleigh, Luke, and Haedyn.
Ashli and Joe complemented each other in the best ways. Ashli was a busy-body, planner with creative ideas. Joe is a logical, easy-going guy who supported her plans. Together they lived in Hazard, Ravenna, and Grand Island. In 2014, Ashli and Joe made their dream of building a cabin at Calamus Reservoir come true. This was their happy place. Ashli preferred the beaches of Calamus to those of any other. She loved long walks with her dogs, golf cart rides, and hosting family and friends. She currently holds the cabin record for the largest trout caught.
Ashli was THE BEST mother and adored her role. She made every day special for her children. She loved chatting with Haleigh 5+ times a day on the phone, watching Huskers and Chiefs football and Jayhawk basketball with Luke, and cheering on Haedyn at volleyball. In her final week, her family fulfilled her last wish of seeing the Chiefs play at Arrowhead Stadium. She loved Patrick Mahomes, decorating for every holiday, playing cards, Elf on the Shelf pranks, sending random notes, and finding any way to make others feel special. When asked what special things she wanted her family to remember to do after her passing, she fittingly asked that they continue to gather for holidays and celebrations.
Ashli will be remembered by all as fun-loving, selfless, thoughtful, strong, and resilient. She adored and was adored by her family endlessly. Her role with her family, friends, and co-workers morphed in January 2023 when she was diagnosed with glioblastoma. She fearlessly fought and underwent all treatments available. She gracefully stepped into the role of patient and helped her family and friends grow together as caretakers. Ashli was a woman of faith and she was not afraid to die. In her absence, she wants those left behind to live every day to the fullest.
Ashli is survived by her husband of 27 years, Joey Hoos of Grand Island; children: Haleigh of Omaha, Luke of Kearney, and Haedyn of Grand Island; parents: Susan Holsten of Grand Island and Kent (Barbara) Holsten of Hastings; brother: Ryan of Lincoln; sisters: Kenzie (Jason) Broders of Raymond and Brynne (James) Puhl of Lincoln; mother in law: Shirley Swanson of Overton; in laws: Jeff (Becky) Hoos of Grand Island, Jason Hoos of Litchfield, IL, and Jodi (Paige) Hoos of Peoria, IL; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; cherished nieces and nephews: Taylor Pickering, Presley Holsten, Karsyn Broders, Sydney Holsten, Kamryn Broders, Justin Broders, Dawson Hoos, Dylan Hoos, Everett Puhl, Dax Hoos, and Oliver Puhl; and a host of friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hoos Family for future designations.
