Barbara Lucas

1951 - 2026

Barbara Lucas passed January 1, 2026 surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was born March 28, 1951 to Ruth (McDaniel) and Robert McClurkin. She grew up in Shelton, Neb. where she graduated from high school in 1969. She went on to attend Kearney State College and graduated from UNK with a Bachelor of Science degree in General Studies May of 2010. She continued taking classes in poetry, social work, writing and Spanish right up into her 70's. She was blessed with two sons, Jorma and Skye, who were the light of her life.

Barbara had the ability to make anything. She could weave a basket, make jelly, bake a perfect loaf of bread. She made paper, wrote soulful poetry, but most impressive was her ability to make friends. She made many friends from every corner of the earth, in every age group, and from every walk of life. Barb embodied the quote, "There are no strangers here; only friends you haven't met yet," and we are all richer because we knew her.

Survivors include her brother, Steve (wife, Terri) McClurkin; two sons, Jorma Lucas, Kearney and Skye Lucas, Madrid, Iowa; and her grandchildren: Jordane, Stephen, Veah, and Evelyn. She also shared a special bond with nephews, Dan and David Scott.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her dearest sister, Christine Scott (Fosler).
