Margaret Lucas Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kenly Funeral & Cremation Service - Kenly on Mar. 30, 2026.
Margaret Irene Parrish Mills Lucas, 93, entered into eternal rest on March 28, 2026 at UNC Health Lenoir. Born on July 11, 1932 in Johnston County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Parrish and Easter Price Parrish.

In addition to her parents, Margaret is preceded in death by her siblings Ollie Mae Avery, Inez "Lady" Humphrey, Cecil Parrish, Norman Parrish, Shelton Parrish, and Maylon Parrish.

Margaret is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Edward Thomas "Tom" Lucas; her three girls, Sharon Mills, Peggy West and husband, Rick, and Tammie Glascoe and husband, Scott; grandchildren, JT Burn and wife, Jenny, Alex West, Riley Wallace and husband, Josh, and Kaley Glascoe; great grandchildren, Madelyn, Trevor, Jacob, Lakelyn, Max, and Beckett; and sister Shirley Pigott and husband, Latus. Margaret is also survived by many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

Margaret was a devoted homemaker who took great pride in her home. She found joy in creating a welcoming space of beauty and comfort for those she loved. She cherished all of her plants, indoor and outdoor, tending to them with care and pride. She also loved ironing and serving a glass of sweet tea to anyone who walked in the door.

She had a creative spirit and a giving heart, often spending her time making afghans and gifting those to her family and friends. Margaret also had a passion for travel, particularly to places where she could enjoy the water. She treasured her time at the beach, especially in Myrtle Beach and Lake Gaston where she spent time soaking up the sun and making the best chicken salad. Margaret and her husband, Tom also went on many trips throughout the United States over the years.

In her earlier years, Margaret worked in hospitality and business in Myrtle Beach, where she was known for her strong work ethic and friendly nature while managing apartment buildings and hotels. She was owner of the Mills Apartments and managed the Sea Captain restaurant where she worked for many years to provide for her family.

A woman of deep faith, Margaret was a devoted and longtime member of Kenly Missionary Baptist Church, where she held the distinction of being its oldest female member. She found great joy in fellowshiping with her Sunday school class and serving in different areas of the church. Her presence, wisdom, and steadfast devotion will be missed by her church family. She leaves a lasting example of what it means to live a life rooted in faith and love.

Above all, Margaret's greatest joy in life was her family. She loved them deeply and unconditionally, always placing their needs above her own. Whether through a warm meal, a handmade blanket, or simply by her comforting presence, she made sure each of her family members felt cherished and loved. The love she gave so freely will forever remain in their hearts and her memory will continue to guide them and comfort them in the days ahead.

Margaret will be remembered for her kindness, her gentle spirit, and the love she freely gave to everyone around her.

Margaret's celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, April 1st, 2026 at 2 p.m. at Kenly Funeral Service. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 1:30 pm until 2 p.m.

Flowers are welcome, or memorials may be sent to Kenly Missionary Baptist Church 1730 NC-222, Kenly, NC 27542 in memory of Margaret.

Yesterday

I remember Margaret as Mrs. Mills when she lived in Myrtle Beach on 28th Ave N. , our neigbors in the two story house with the porch. Sharon and Peggy hung out with me and my sister, Cindy in the two block area between our homes. Mrs . Mills had an open door policy at her home and a revolving door as we picked black berries on the sandy hill behind her home, coming in and out for a drink of water as we played in the summer sunshine and after school. She was always impeccably groomed with her blond hair and friendly, outgoing personality. She loved her girls fiercely and was a hard worker, requiring the girls to do their chores and look out for each other. That was a time when our mothers sent us out to play, with instructions to be home by dark. Mrs. Mills created a care free time for her girls.Sharon, Peggy and
Tammy. Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers, remembering the wonderful role model she was for her family.
