June Dawson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Smith Funeral Service & Crematory - Greenville on Mar. 30, 2026.
Greenville – June Brown Dawson, 85, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2026.

A graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday at 11 am at Pinewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.

June, daughter of the late Earl and Mildred Brown, was born in Princeton and raised in Greenville. She began her career as a beautician in 1966, and later owned and operated June's Beauty Salon in Ayden, retiring after 25 years.

June married David Dawson and made her home in Deep Run for many years. Upon his passing in 2018, she relocated back to Greenville to be near family. She was a member of 902 Church in Kinston. June loved sitting on her porch at her beach home and later enjoyed her river home on the Pamlico River. She enjoyed cooking out on the grill and spending time with family and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Clayton McGowan, brother, Shelton Brown, and sister, Edna Peavey.

She is survived by her children, Sharon Averett (Warren) and Randy McGowan (Mary Liz), all of Ayden; grandchildren, Tyler Averett (Nicole) and Tanner Averett; great-grandchildren, Tyler Tate and Silas Averett; brother, Steve Brown (Mary Carlyle); and two special nieces, Stephanie and Meredith.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to ECU Health Hospice House, c/o ECU Health Foundation, PO Box 8489, Greenville, NC 27835.
