Bonnie Jean Soderquist
November 28, 1952 - January 9, 2025
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Bonnie Jean Soderquist from Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She peacefully departed from this world at home from natural causes on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at the age of 72.
Bonnie Jean Chase was born on November 28, 1952, as the fourth of five children in the loving home of Donald and Rowena (Hendricks) Chase in Bertrand, Nebraska. Her early years were spent in Weldona, Colorado, where she was nurtured in a close-knit family until the ninth grade. The family then moved to Minden, Nebraska, where Bonnie graduated from high school in 1970, laying the groundwork for a life full of cherished moments.
After graduating, Bonnie dedicated herself to her family's restaurants, where she would meet the love of her life, Keith. On August 1, 1971, they were joyfully united in marriage. Together, they began their journey in Colorado Springs, Colorado, while Keith served at Fort Carson. The couple was blessed with their first son, James Edward. In 1973, they decided to return to Nebraska to be closer to family, and they were blessed with their second son, Jayson Dale.
Bonnie poured her heart into raising her sons, choosing to stay home and provide them with the love and attention they deserved. Her passion for children and her patience were evident in every interaction. A few years later, Bonnie's entrepreneurial spirit led her to open her in-home daycare, a venture she managed lovingly for about five years. In 1984, the family moved to South Dakota, where Bonnie continued her mission by establishing another at-home daycare for ten more years. In 2000, the family relocated to Prior Lake, Minnesota, and once again, Bonnie opened her doors to children, running her daycare there for about five years. After 20 devoted years in the daycare industry, she retired to focus on what mattered most: her family.
While they lived in Minnesota, Bonnie and Keith formed deep, lasting friendships that they treasured. Eventually, they settled in Sioux Falls to be closer to their beloved sons.
Bonnie's greatest joy in life was undoubtedly her family. She found immense happiness in watching her grandchildren grow, as well as in nurturing her love for reading and tackling daily crossword puzzles. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and she also had a special bond with animals, having cared for many pets throughout her life. Among them, two stood out: Heather Baby and Sugar, who held a particularly special place in her heart.
Bonnie is survived by her devoted husband of 53 years, Keith Soderquist of Sioux Falls; her beloved sons, Jim (April) Soderquist of Hudson, SD, and Jay (Tina) Soderquist of Colton, SD; and her six cherished grandchildren, Calvin Riffey, Cody Soderquist, Wyatt Riffey, Cassie Soderquist, Mya Soderquist, and Grace Soderquist. She is also lovingly remembered by her brother, John Chase of Omaha, NE; her sisters, Donna (Denis) Lovewell-Wood of Superior, NE, and Carol Dolan of Kearney, NE; brother-in-law Carroll (Janice) Soderquist of Axtell, NE; sister-in-law Karen (Jerry) Gilbreath of Pickrell, NE; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Bonnie is preceded in death by her caring parents, Donald and Rowena Chase; her brother, Larry Chase; and brothers-in-law, Dave Lovewell and Larry Dolan.
A funeral service to celebrate Bonnie's beautiful life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 17, 2025, at Peace Lutheran Church, 5509 West 41st Street. Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Thursday, January 16, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Miller Westside Chapel, 6200 West 41st Street. Interment will take place at the South Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Sioux Falls, SD, as we honor Bonnie's loving spirit and the cherished memories she leaves behind.
