KEARNEY - Brad A. Newcomb, 65, of Kearney died Thursday, April 22, 2021, at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney.
Brad's wish was to be cremated.
His life will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Curran Funeral Chapel in Grand Island. The Rev. Marty Egging will officiate. The service will be livestreamed on Curran Funeral Chapel's Facebook page. The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Friday at Curran Funeral Chapel. Face masks are encouraged at the visitation and memorial service for the safety of all.

Brad was born Jan. 20, 1956, in Des Moines, Iowa. He was the son of Cris and Rae (Imes) Newcomb. Brad graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1974, continuing his education at UNL. In March 1977 Brad began his internship working with Nebraska Game & Parks. He completed his bachelor's degree in biology in 1979, accepting a permanent position with the state. He made his home in Lincoln and later Kearney, working 44 years for Nebraska Game & Parks. At the time of his death, he was the Southwest District Fisheries Division Manager. Brad loved the out-of-doors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and skilled at cooking his catch. He enjoyed family outings and loved frying his delicious walleye for family and friends. He also was a fan of thoroughbred horse racing.
Survivors include his son, William Newcomb of Omaha; daughter, Blake Newcomb of Kearney; grandchildren, Isabelle Cabrales, J.R. Cabrales, Alex Cabrales and Noah Brisbon; mother and stepfather, Rae and Maurice Horak of Grand Island; sister, Brenda Bellamy of Omaha; and special friend, Carol Lilly of Grand Island.
Brad was preceded in death by his grandparents and an infant brother.
Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
