Kearney resident, 96

KEARNEY - Edna Richter, 96, of Kearney died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, at Good Samari-tan Hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. James Catholic Church with the Rev. Charles Torpey officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Ceme-tery at Prairie Center.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary and one hour before services at the church. Christian wake services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the church.

She was born Dec. 7, 1911, in Pleasanton to John and Christina (O'Neill) Suntken.

On Oct. 8, 1935, she married Edward Richter in Pleasanton. He died in 2003.

Survivors include her sons, Kenneth Richter and his wife, Elaine, and Tom Richter and his wife, Carol, all of Kearney; daughters, Joan King and her husband, Gary, of Amherst and Kathy Hoins and her husband, Kary, of Grand Island; sisters, Marylin Trampe and her husband, Dewaine, of Amherst and Rose Janitscheck of Pleasanton; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She graduated from Pleasanton High School in 1929. She then attended Kearney State Teachers College and later taught rural school in the Pleasanton area.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church at Prairie Center, Thorn-Div Extension Club and Altar Society and was active as a 4-H leader.

She enjoyed being active in extension work and also will be remembered as a wonderful cook, especially for her pies. She enjoyed playing cards and spending time tending to her garden and flowers. She enjoyed spending time with family, and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the center of her life.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son in infancy, three brothers and two sisters.
