Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday at O'Brien-Straatmann-Redinger Funeral Home.

He was born Oct. 1, 1918, in Grand Island to James and Pearl (Houts) Millsap.

On Dec. 12, 1945, he married Dorothy Niedt in Broken Bow.

Survivors include his wife; son, Dana Millsap and his wife, Sharon, of Overton; daughters, Judy Poland of Kearney, Lori Roper and her husband, Denny, of Amherst and Tamera Heaton and Pamela Davidson, both of Kearney; son, Kevin Millsap and his wife, Claressa, of Kearney; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Lois Niedt of Kearney and Dorothy Squiers of Broken Bow; many nieces and nephews; and close friend, Ray Schutte of Kearney.

At age 4, Ellis and his family moved to Sargent, where he received his education at West Union School. He entered the U.S. Army on March 5, 1942, and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged Sept. 30, 1943.

He was a retired farmer who never really retired as he continued to work for other farms until he was in his 80s. He then kept a huge garden and enjoyed landscaping at his and Dorothy's home.

Ellis was baptized at First Church of God in Kearney, remained an active member and was the yard caretaker until last year. He also was a member of American Legion Post 52. Ellis was adored by his grandchildren and faithfully attended all their activities and sporting events.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Richard "Dick" Poland; and brothers, Merlin, Allen, Cline and Alfred Millsap.

Memorials are suggested to First Church of God or St. John's Good Samaritan Society.

Ellis always reminded me so much of my dad. He was a sweet and gentle man. I don't remember anyone ever saying anything negative about him, and I don't remember him saying anything negative about anyone else. He showed the fruits of the Spirit in his life each day. He truly lived a long and good life, and I know you all will miss him greatly. Our thoughts and prayers are with you ~ Larry & Rena

As a youngster, I became good friends with son Kevin and spent many an evening around the Millsap home. I never saw Ellis or Dorothy in anything but a good, warm and cheerful mood no matter how loud us loudmouths became. He was a good man and my prayers go out to the entire family.
