Everett Platt Jr. Obituary

Elwood resident, 74

HASTINGS - Everett H. "E.J." Platt Jr., 74, of Elwood died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church in Elwood with the Rev. Linda Newman officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Miller Cemetery near Tryon.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church.

Adams & Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte is in charge of arrangements.

He was born June 20, 1934, in North Platte to Everett Sr. and Florence (Marvin) Platt.

On July 16, 1992, he married Catherine Cole near Gordon.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Brad Platt Churchill and his wife, Shirley, of Fowler, Colo., Shane of California, Shad and his wife, Cami, of Orland, Calif., and Shannon and his wife, Shana, of Yankton, S.D.; daughter, Shamra of Montana; brother, Vern and his wife, Fran, of Hay Springs; grandchildren, Mishawn, Kylee, Devoney, Taylor, Lane, Shandan, Shayden, Shaylor and Shayce; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He grew up in Gandy and graduated from Logan County High School in 1951. He attended Hastings College, then the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

He entered the U.S. Army and served for two years in Alaska. After his discharge from the Army, he worked in a Hereford Show Barn. He then sold farm implements in the Valentine area.

He moved to the Wood Lake community, where he ranched.

He and his wife were married at the Terry Johnson Ranch near Gordon. They moved to Elwood in 2002.

He was a member of First Christian Church in Elwood, an active member of the Lions Club and very involved in community activities and helping others.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
