He was born Dec. 25, 1928, on the family farm south of Fort Kearny in Kearney County to John and Ethel (Sheldon) Lange.

On June 22, 1948, he married Verla Peters in Santa Fe, N.M.

Survivors include the love of his life, his wife; daughters, Terry Smith and her husband, Rob, of Gibbon, Diane Bayley and her husband, Tim, of Wood River and Denise Nutter and her husband, Gregg, of Hershey; sons, Dennis Lange and his wife, Fran, of Minden and Mike Lange and his wife, Kathy, of Gibbon; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and brother, Don of Lincoln.

He grew up in Kearney County and attended rural school. The family moved to a farm west of Lowell in 1943, and he graduated from Gibbon High School in 1948.

He and Verla moved to their home in Lowell, south of Gibbon, where they have made their home since. He had farmed for many years in that area. To this union five children were born, three daughters and two sons, his "Full House."

His love of family, farming, hunting and fishing sustained his life. He never knew a stranger. He retired from farming in 2005.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Velma Duncan and Treva Davis; and brother, Dale.

There are few men in the world like Uncle Wayne and I am honored to have known him. He always had a smile, would always lend a hand and would make you laugh while helping. You will be missed very much and will live in our hearts always.

Wayne was a special person.I loved how he teased me.I saw him dressed up one night and I had to ask who he was. HE looked at me and told me it was wayne lange. I had only seen him in work clothes and a ball cap. what a difference being in a suit does to a person. He had a specail cow called molly that lives in Minden. I HOPE THEY KEEP THE COW TILL IT DIES. THAT'S WHAT HE WOULD WANT I KNOW. I WORKED WITH TERRY AT THE STORE IN GIBBON, SHE HAD A GREAT FATHER. WAYNE IS IN A MUCH BETTER PLACE NOW. HE HURTS NO MORE AND HE'S UP THERE TALKING TO ALL THE OTHER FARMERS THAT ARE UP THERE AND EVERYONE ELSE.
