Faye Wendt Obituary
KEARNEY - Faye Wendt, 86, of Hazard died Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at Homestead Assisted Living in Kearney.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Hazard with the Rev. Martin Egging officiating. Burial will be at Pleasanton Cemetery.
Wake services will be at 7 p.m. today at the church.
Rasmussen Funeral Home in Ravenna is in charge of arrangements.
She was born Nov. 30, 1925, on her grandparents' homestead south of Pleasanton to John and Anna (Grammer) Geisler.
On June 16, 1945, she married Donald "Don" Wendt in Pleasanton. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include her son, Dick Wendt and his wife, Diane, of Hazard; granddaughter, Stacey Young and her husband, Jason, of Sargent; grandsons, Jeff Wendt and his wife, Dalinda, and Ryan Wendt and his wife, Jillian, all of Pleasanton; brother, Eugene Geisler of Lincoln; sister, Shirley Chavanau and her husband, Don, of Pleasanton; great-grandchildren, Theo Williams and Jaylin Young of Sargent and Treven, Brecken, Mason and Max Wendt of Pleasanton; and many nieces and nephews.
She attended school at District 87 and graduated from Pleasanton High School in 1942.
She attended Teachers College in Kearney and began her teaching career in fall 1943. She taught in rural schools before teaching in Pleasanton for many years.
She and Donald lived on a farm north of Kearney for several years before moving near Hazard in 1951.
Faye was active in St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, Pleasant Hill Card Club, the Jolly Homemakers, the Laf-a-lot Club in Litchfield and the Hazard Monday Bridge Club.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Francis; great-grandsons, Kellen Ryan Wendt and Reily John Wendt; and sister-in-law, Lucille Geisler.

Mrs. Wendt was my 2nd grade teacher and a dear, sweet lady that has always given me that wonderful gift each and every time I saw her, the gift of her time!! I so enjoyed seeing her at different church functions and community functions over the years! I am so grateful this wonderful woman was MY teacher!! She touched so very many lives and encouraged so many children over the years. She had expectations for each of her students and would always give of her time and energy to help any one of them. I will miss her, but to me she has always been an Angel!!

I met Faye when my teaching career began. Her words of wisdom carried me through many years of a 40 year teaching career. Always a jolly laugh at the end of the day. Her husband Don was a great sidekick too and I always enjoyed them during my days in Pleasanton. My sympathy to the family of a great lady.

Faye was a wonderful person. She lived with my grandparents Herman & Jennie Kohlscheen early in teaching career in Country school north of Pleasanton. We were very young but she always remarked about us visiting our Grandparents during that time. She touch so many students and people in her teaching career. Pleasanton area lost a true Christian and Friend. My prays and thoughts are with you during your grieving and loss of Faye

Faye was a great person, she touch so many lives in many different ways. Our family will never forget her. She taught a number of generations of families in the Pleasanton area. She always had a smile and knew you no matter what. A mentor to everyone. She will be missed.

Faye was one of my husband, Jim Hibberd's, favorite people. When ever he talked about her he always had a smile on his face. It meant so much to me when she made the trip to Gibbon to attend his service. I will never forget that thoughtfulness. She was a special person to so many.

Faye was a wonderful person, friend and teacher. She always had a ready smile, hearty laugh, and a cute story about her elementary "kids". Ronda'a family the Ritters spent many enjoyable times with the Wendt famly, and the Schulte's always enjoyed seeing Faye and crew at family and church events. We loved having Faye as our 2nd/3rd grade teacher, family friend and mentor. In later years she was always interested in Ronda's teaching experiences, and never failed to pull out a teaching story from her own teaching career. We will always think of Faye with gratitude and a smile!
