Genevieve E. Wietjes 100 of Kearney passed away on September 15, 2025, at Brookstone Gardens in Kearney, Neb. Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m., September 20, 2025, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church with burial at Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., September 19, 2025, a Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services, and prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 759, Kearney or the American Cancer Society. Genevieve was born February 10, 192,5 to Charles and Mable (Boe) Bosle at their farm in Custer County near Litchfield, Neb. She was baptized March 1, 1925, and confirmed August 28, 1938, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Litchfield. On March 1, 1947, she married Amos G. Wietjes in Litchfield after he returned from World War II.

Genevieve was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Kearney. She was an assistant Pre-School teacher for six years. She was also an active member of the LWML, quilters guild and served as president of the Women's Society.

Genevieve graduated from Litchfield High School in 1942 where she earned a teaching certificate. Later she earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Kearney State College. She spent most of her career teaching in Custer and Buffalo County rural school districts. She also taught in the Gibbon and Pleasanton Public Schools retiring in 1990. Education was always a part of Genevieve's life.

Genevieve was the president of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Kearney for 13 years. She also served as District president for three years. During that time, she co-chaired the annual Voice of Democracy and Patriots Pin Essay contests for middle and high school students.

Other organizations she belonged to included, Delta Kappa Gama teachers' Society, Kearney Women's Society, and Our Afternoon Off Extension Club.

Genevieve enjoyed baking cinnamon rolls and pies, gardening and canning. She also enjoyed playing cards and Bingo.

In 2015 she moved to Kinship Northridge in Kearney where she stayed busy with many activities and enjoyed her friendships there.

Genevieve is survived by her children, Brenda (Keith) Martin of Helotes, Texas, Rodney (Connie) Wietjes of Liberty, Mo., Dennis Wietjes of York, Neb., and Kristi (Richard) George of Snohomish, Wash.; sister, Mavis Reiter; 11 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Amos; sons, Jerry and Donald; brothers, Lyman and Maynard Bosle and sisters, Luella Henry, Delores Wietjes and Mariann Koepp.
