He was born May 6, 1931, in Riverton to Charles and Anna (Berlie) Macklin.

In 1953, he married Peggy Bos.

On Dec. 15, 1960, he married Marilyn Anderson.

On March 17, 2005, he married Marlene Onwiler Shearer.

Survivors include his wife; children, Tracy Johnson of Denver, Scott Peterson and his wife, Deb, of Elkhorn and Shane Macklin of Sioux Falls, S.D.; stepchildren, Penny Talbert and her husband, Matt, and Rob Shearer, all of Minden; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

His family moved to the Minden area, and Homer graduated in 1949 from Minden High School, where he was on the football and basketball teams.

Homer served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 until 1953. He returned to the Minden area and was the manager of Friends Motor in Minden for 35 years.

Homer was a member of the United Methodist Church in Minden. Homer had a passion for racing. In his early years he drove race cars, and then he became the "Head Wrench" on the crew of "Mighty Mouse."

Homer was proud to have had two of his cars displayed at the Knoxville Sprint Car Racing Hall of Fame. He was notified last week that he will be inducted into the Nebraska Racing Hall of Fame.

He was a fix-it man and would tinker in his shop for many hours. He was a collector of parking meters and a huge Nebraska football fan.

Memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Auto Racing Hall of Fame.

One of my favorite thoughts:
Tonight, when you look up, don't think of them as stars. Think of them as porch lights welcoming your loved one home.
Sending you thoughts of peace in your time of sorrow.

Please accept my condolences. I have a lot of fond memories of time spent with Homer growing up. I always looked forward to visiting with him when I was in the area and will miss that.
