James E. "Jim" Schippert

Funeral Service for James E. "Jim" Schippert will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Republican City, Nebraska with Pastor Seong Lee officiating. Interment will follow at the Alma Cemetery in Alma, Nebraska with Military Honors provided by the Fay Cady American Legion Post #118 in conjunction with the United States Army Funeral Honors Team. Knowing Jim, the family requests casual attire.

James Eugene "Jim" Schippert, 97 years of age, of Alma, passed away on Monday, November 6, 2023, at the Harlan County Health System in Alma. Jim was born on the family farm in Harlan County, Nebraska, on May 23, 1926, the eldest of five children, born to Eugene Gottlieb "Ike" and Beatrice Louise (Stanton) Schippert. The family lived for three years in LeBam, Washington State during the Depression years, where Jim made many lifelong friends. The family then returned to Republican City, where he received his education from Republican City Public School and graduated with the class of 1943.

Following his education, Jim worked on the family farm. When Jim wasn't farming, he also worked as a rural mail carrier for over 50 years.

On September 19, 1950, Jim was inducted into the United States Army and did his training at Fort Belvoir, VA. He was deployed to Hanau, West Germany, with the 5th Army, to perform his duties as a construction specialist in carpentry. He was honorably discharged on August 19, 1952.

On February 3, 1957, Jim was united in marriage to Marjorie F. "Marje" Bierman at the Presbyterian Church in Holdrege, Nebraska, and to this union two children were born: Lisa and Daniel. The family made their home north of Republican City. In 1970, they suffered a house fire. Jim rebuilt their home, where they lived in for the next 38 years.

Jim loved farming, traveling with Marje, and taking photos. Jim was a skilled woodworker and enjoyed helping others build and remodel their homes. He was innovative in building a lift to help get up into the combine and also built a post hole digger that ran off the PTO, as well as many other inventions.

Jim served as on the Republican City School Board and the Republican City Elevator Board. He was a member of the Republican City American Legion #361, the rural Mail Carrier's Association and was a very active member of the Republican City United Methodist Church.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marje in 2016; a stillborn granddaughter, Angela Sindelar; niece, Kimberly Schippert; nephew, Larry Waggoner; sister-in-law, Averil Savery and her husband, Gilbert; and five brothers-in-law: Bill Waggoner, Howard Losey, Gordon Busboom, Butch DeBerard and Ron Wills.

Jim leaves to celebrate his life; children: Lisa Overleese and her husband, Tom of Republican City; and Dann Schippert and his life partner, Matt Ely of Lincoln, Nebraska; five grandchildren: Sami Bradley and husband, Jake; Natalie Hein and her husband, Darren; Eric Overleese; Sheana Overleese; and Jimmy Sindelar and his wife, Hannah; nine great-grandchildren: Karsten; Kaitlyn; Jaelyn; Jackson; and Anniston Bradley; Calvin, Kennedy, and Dakota Hein; and Tate Sindelar; brother: Rich Schippert and his wife, Julie of Republican City; three sisters, Vera Losey of Republican City, Joyce Bush and her husband, Chuck of Rogers, Arkansas; and Velma DeBerard and her partner, Larry Gilman, of Twin Falls, Idaho; son-in-law, Jim Sindelar and his wife, Julie of Republican City; and his beloved four legged companion, Fred; along with nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

A visitation will be held on Monday, November 13, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma.
