Janet L. Halbert, 79 of Kearney passed away Monday, October 14, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 15, 2024 at O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney. Inurnment will follow at Kearney Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Condolences may be shared online at www.osrfh.com. Services are entrusted to O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral and Cremation Services.
Janet was born January 19, 1945, in Niles, Michigan to Alvin and Helena (Rose) Sheldon. She moved to Kearney when she was five and later attended Kearney High School, graduating with the class of 1963. Janet went to work at Baldwin Filters where she met and married Larry Mays. To this union two sons were blessed. They later divorced. She was also a longtime employee of Coleman Powermate. Most recently, she worked at the Buckle until retiring. Janet was united in marriage to Steven Halbert on August 19, 1994, in Las Vegas, NV.
Janet enjoyed reading, puzzles and collecting rocks. She also loved to play golf, bowl and working in her garden and yard. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Steven Halbert of Kearney; sons, Scott (Michelle) Mays of Urbandale, IA and Kevin (Jacy) Mays of Castle Rock, CO; grandchildren, Courtenay (Kellen) Mollohan, Kelsey Mays, Andrew (Ashley Brison) Mays and Ryan Mays; great grandchildren, Walker Mollohan, Stassi Mays and Liam Brison; brothers, Jackie Sheldon of Shelton and Jerry (Kim) Sheldon of Kearney; sister, Joan (Mark) Stevens of Kearney; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents.
