Jim Jacobs Obituary

KEARNEY - Jim Jacobs, 93, of Shelton died Monday, Jan. 4, 2021, at CHI Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney with the Rev. Dean Pofahl officiating.
Interment will follow at Kearney Cemetery with military honors provided by the Gibbon American Legion Post 310 in conjunction with the Nebraska National Guard Honors Team. The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

James Benton Jacobs was born Feb. 24, 1927, in Kearney to Roy and Erna (Schauer) Jacobs. He was raised near Shelton and attended Shelton High School, graduating with the class of 1944.
On Oct. 8, 1950, Jim married Doris Blue at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lowell. To this union three children were blessed.
Jim served in the U.S. Army from November 1950 until his honorable discharge in August 1952. He served in Korea during the Korean War from March 1951 to Februrary 1952.
The couple made their home south of Gibbon where Jim farmed and raised cattle until 1992. He later drove truck, retiring in 2010.
Jim was a longtime member of the Gibbon American Legion Post 310.
Survivors include his daughters, Renee (Roger) Swearingen of Gibbon and Connie (Randy) Scarrow of Norton, Kansas; son, Brian Jacobs of Gibbon; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Kelly (Orville) Vincent of Sargent and daughters, Sidney and Carsen and nephew, Daniel Vincent and family; Tyler (Kim) Swearingen of Kearney and children, Carter and Avrie; Misti (Jon) Schroeder of Kearney and children, Devin of Lincoln and MaKennah, Charley, Ryaan and Makenzie; Brandon Jacobs of Lincoln and daughters, Brianna and Brielle; Danette Jacobs of Gibbon and daughters, Desirae, Destiny and Josa, Arianna and Atticus; Seth Jacobs of Kearney and children, Sienna and Xavier; Geoff (Anita) Wieland of Wheatland, Wyoming, and children, Gunner, Josey and Ziva; Reiley Wieland of Ravenna; Mallory Pinger of Vine Grove, Kentucky, and son Carson; and Jeremy Scarrow of Lincoln; sister-in-law, Della Wallace of Kearney; nieces, Trudy Jacobs, Candi Michel and Marcene Bauer; and nephew, Cary Blue.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris Jacobs; brother, Robert Jacobs; and an infant sister.
Memorials are suggested to the Central Nebraska Veterans' Home.

My deepest sympathy to Jim's family and friends. I did Jim and Doris's taxes for many years and he always had a joke to tell me. After she passed he would always tell me how much he missed her. RIP Jim
