Joseph D. McTygue, 60, of Kearney, Neb., passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at his home in Kearney, Neb.
A funeral mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2025 at St. James Catholic Church in Kearney. Interment will follow at Eddyville Cemetery in Eddyville, Neb. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney.
He was born on July 23, 1964, in Kearney, Neb. to James and Barbara (Dickerson) McTygue. He attended public school at Sumner-Eddyville-Miller and graduated with the class of 1983. Joe was a member of Saint James Catholic Church in Kearney. He loved spending his free time working with the Knights of Columbus, hanging with his grandchildren, playing cards, spending time outside, hiking, fishing and hunting. He loved traveling with his friends and family on skiing trips in Colorado and gambling trips to Deadwood or Las Vegas. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Alma McTygue; children, Steph (Marshall) Behrens of Adams, Sam Tibbetts of Kearney, Joey McTygue of Lincoln, Sarah McTygue of Lincoln; grandchildren, including Max, Cale, Vonn, and Iris; brothers, Jim McTygue of Omaha, Mark (Lynda) McTygue of Eddyville, and Matt (Melissa) McTygue of Eddyville; sisters, Mary (Paul) Schipporeit of Sumner, and Anne (Sid) Klingelhoefer of Amherst; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Barbara McTygue; brother, John McTygue; and son-in-law, Billy Hall.
