Lucille Grassmeyer Obituary

Lucille Grassmeyer

January 19, 1930 - September 9, 2025

Lucille R. Grassmeyer, 95, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at CHI Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on January 19, 1930, on the family farm in Herndon, Kansas, to Adolph and Elizabeth (Grafel) Kleint. She attended school in Herndon and graduated from Herndon High School with the class of 1947. When Lucille was sixteen, she taught at a one room schoolhouse before attended Fort Hays State where she took some college courses. Once she made her home in Lexington, Lucille worked as a laundress, ironing clothing. She would later go on to work for the glass company for several years. She then transitioned to work for Nebraska Public Power District as a customer service representative until her retirement in 1992.

She loved to work and be productive, often volunteering for meals on wheels and would help in the office at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington. She was also greatly involved with the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. On May 26, 1972, Lucille was united in marriage to Leland Grassmeyer in Lexington.

Lucille was self-sufficient and an incredibly strong woman. She spent her days making sure her children were involved in various activities including boy's and girl's scouts, and that they never went without. She did whatever she could to make sure her children were fed, clothed, and had a little fun. She enjoyed taking them to the drive-in movie theater and Saturdays were for sitting on the couch and watching Gunsmoke. She was a magnificent piano player and was a gifted crafter. She would can fruits and vegetables, crochet, cross stitch, and sew, oftentimes sewing her daughter's barbie clothes. She loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always working on arts and crafts with them. She was also their biggest cheerleader, attending all of their activities.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Rod Harmon of Lexington, Dan (Cindy) Harmon of Lexington, and Cindy (Daryl Widholm) Bliven of Gothenburg; daughter-in-law, Gloria Harmon of Arapahoe; grandchildren, Jamie (Brent) Goodell of Minden, Justin (Deidra) Harmon of Grand Island, Matt (Amy) Harmon of North Platte, Jeff (Michelle) Harmon of Holdrege, Christopher (Shannon) Harmon of Arapahoe, Nate Bliven of Lexington, and Eric (Shelley) Bliven of Lexington; as well as numerous great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; extended family and friends.

Besides her parents, Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Leland Grassmeyer; her son, Mike Harmon; brother, Wilbur Kleint; sister, Doris Meints; and great-granddaughter, Madysn Harmon.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 15, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington, with Pastor Rob Kuefner officiating.

Burial will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington following the service.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington, with family receiving guests from 3 to 5 p.m.
