Mary Ann Freeling
Mary Ann Freeling, 71, of Kearney, formerly of Omaha, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at Mount Carmel Home in Kearney surrounded by family after a courageous 6-month battle with cancer. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m., Thursday, November 16, 2023 at St. James Catholic Church, followed by a vigil service at 6:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 17, 2023 at St. James with Father Joe Hannappel as celebrant. Burial will follow at the Kearney Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Kearney Area Animal Shelter, the Kearney Catholic Schools, or St. James Catholic Church. Mary Ann was born January 10, 1952 in Omaha to John "Jack" and Adeline Freeling. She grew up in Kearney and graduated from Kearney Catholic in 1970. She moved back to Omaha and lived there for many years working as a CNA for over 29 years. She worked at the Fitzgerald Veterans' Home, the Retired Teachers' Home and the Med Center along with others in Omaha.
Mary Ann loved animals, especially her dog, Jimmy. She always had treats for the dogs living in her apartment building. She enjoyed reading, crafts, volunteering at the Peterson Senior Center, and socializing with friends at Cimmaron Court.
Mary Ann is survived by brothers Dick (Nancy) Freeling of Hastings, NE., Philip (Anna) Freeling of Kearney, NE., Lonny Todd of Colorado Springs, CO.; sisters Susan (Paul) Muchmore-Phelps of Kearney, NE., Joan (Terry) Nies of Melbourne, FL., Cecelia (Mark) Wildrick of Lenexa, KS., Jackie Freeling of Omaha, NE., Rita (Don) Weiss of Colorado Springs, CO., Lorri Salyards of Fort Collins, CO., and Kyla (Scott) Babcock of Omaha, NE; additional survivors include numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents.

I got the pleasure of getting to know Mary at Mt. Carmel while working as a CNA/MA. I enjoyed her smile so much. My prayers to family.
