Lincoln resident, 53

LINCOLN - Michael "Mike" Peterson, 53, of Lincoln, formerly of Minden, died on Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at Bryan LGH West in Lincoln.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Minden United Methodist Church with the Rev. Stuart Davis officiating. Burial will be at Minden Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-6 today at Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden.

He was born Jan. 24, 1958, in Minden to Conrad and Patricia (McBride) Peterson.

Survivors include his daughter, Melissa DeLaet and her husband, Nathan, of Grand Island; sons, Grant Peterson of Superior and Tyler Peterson of Malcolm; grandson, Keith DeLaet; and sister, Mary Peterson of Alexandria, Va.

He grew up in the Minden area and graduated from Minden High School in 1976. He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and then returned to Minden and farmed in the area until he moved to Norfolk in 2000. He later moved to Lincoln.

While in Minden, he was the treasurer for Hayes Township and sold Crows seed corn.

Mike enjoyed dirt biking, hunting, fishing, working in his shop, farming and camping. He was an avid Husker fan and loved spending time with his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Melissa, Grant and Tyler,
I am sorry for your loss. Your dad and I were friends. I remember his candy apple red car from high school, it was a stick, and that he tried to teach me to drive it. I stalled it on the railroad tracks not far from home, he tried to remain calm. :) He could make me laugh. I will keep your family in my prayers. R. Schwartz
