Rhoda Mattson Goodman, 99 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Chrisoma Villa in Holdrege. Rhoda was born on the farm near Loomis on June 13, 1926, the eldest of two daughters, born to Victor and Rose (Christiansen) Mattson. She received her education from District 16 school north of Loomis through seventh grade, then Republican School for eighth grade, and graduated from Loomis High School with the class of 1943. She then went to the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and studied Business.

Rhoda moved to Denver, Colorado, where she met Charles James Goodman, and they were married on June 9, 1946, in Denver. To this union, four children were born: Charles, Larry, John, and Sharon. The couple made their home in several locations before settling in Holdrege. Rhoda focused on raising their children and supporting her family.

Rhoda cherished surprising loved ones with visits during her travels. She found joy in painting, crocheting, embroidering, and tackling crossword puzzles. As the loving glue holding her family together, she made it her mission to unite everyone for holidays and special occasions, fostering cherished memories.

Rhoda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 65 years, Charles Goodman; two sons, Larry Goodman; and John Goodman; and one son-in-law, James Anderson.

Rhoda is survived by two children: Charles "Allan" Goodman and his wife, Lynne of Garden Grove, California and Sharon Anderson of Holdrege and Anaheim, California; two daughters-in-law: Janet Goodman and Lola Goodman; nine grandchildren: Connie Poulos, Jody Durham (Bill Jr.), John David Goodman (Rebecca), Jennifer Hunau (Seth), Karen Peterson (Mike), Tiffany Goodman, Tracey Goodman (Chris), James Anderson Jr., Jeffrey Anderson (Marisela); 18 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Carolyn Sullivan; and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A memorial has been established in Rhoda's honor, and kindly suggested to Christian Homes Care Community, Crossroads Center, or Rescue Mission in Hastings, Nebraska.

Yesterday

Remember visiting Goodman family at their home in New Mexico during the late seventies when Rhoda prepared a meal including homemade Lasagna for my wife, Carol, daughter, Audrey and myself. Rhoda was always warm and kind. I cherish memories of her.
