IOWA CITY, Iowa - Richard John "Rick" Merryman, 62, of Davenport died Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, in the intensive-care unit at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.

Memorial services will be later at St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Davenport. The body will be cremated and the ashes will be scattered in the church's prayer garden.

He was born April 18, 1949, in Omaha, Neb., and was adopted by Robert and LaRue Merryman.

He married Julianne Robson.

Survivors include his wife, Julie; son, Christopher of Florida; stepchildren, Sally Mathis of Tennessee and Marc Robson of Colorado; and other extended family and friends.

Several years later, while working at Rockwell International, Rick married Julianne Robson and received his master's degree from the University of Nebraska.

His career as a manufacturing plant controller took the family to Illinois, Tennessee, Nebraska and Davenport. Wherever they lived, he was active in Rotary Clubs and the United Methodist and Episcopal churches.

While in Davenport he served as a chalice bearer at St. Alban's Episcopal Church and was serving on the Board of Directors of IH Mississippi Valley Credit Union at the time of his death. He also worked part time for Habitat for Humanity and the downtown YMCA.

Julie- I am a 2nd cousin and knew Ricky's mom so well. She was best friends with my mom and dad. Dad (Arne Mattson) was Uncle Herman's brother. We are sorry for you loss and hope you can be with family and friends.

Julie, I am a Kearney 2nd cousin - - I sent it on to other cousins so they
would know. So sorry for your loss. I am Caroline Mattson Robinson's daughter. She is still alive at 102 years, but now lives in a care home, not with me. I used to take care of Ricky (as we called him) when he
was a little one. They lived close to us & Grandma Mattson.
