Robert Cummings Obituary

Grand Island resident, 62

GRAND ISLAND - Robert "Bob" Cummings Jr., 62, of Grand Island died of cancer Monday, April 1, 2013, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church in Grand Island with the Rev. Michael Reiners officiating. The body was cremated.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the church.

All Faiths Funeral Home of Grand Island is in charge of arrangements.

He was born Oct. 26, 1950, at Grand Island to Robert W. Sr. and Dorthy (Kroeger) Cummings.

On March 15, 1997, he married Patty Jantzi.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Jamie Cummings and Anne Cummings, both of Kearney; stepdaughter, Trisha Copley and her husband, Scott, of Hastings; grandson, whom Bob and Pat helped raise, and his wife, Tyler and Rebecca Thomas; sister, Deb Cummings of Grand Island; stepgrandchildren, Shelby Thomas and Max Geiger; great-grandchildren, Landon and Aurora Thomas; and nieces and nephews.

Bob was raised in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Northwest High School, class of 1969. Bob recently retired from Grand Island Public Schools as grounds supervisor.

Memberships included Peace Lutheran Church, Patriot Guard, Grand Island Rifle Club and Chaparral Motorcycle Club of Hastings. Bob enjoyed motorcycle riding, traveling and fishing and loved animals but most of all spending time with family.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials are suggested to the church or St. Francis Cancer Treatment Center.

My sincere condolences. May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. I remember the good times we had during the hot Summers back in the late 60's. Bob in his blue Oldsmobile Toronado tearing up the streets in G.I. Back then this was the only front wheel drive car around. Man could he smoke those tires.
