Former Miller resident, 79

GERRY, N.Y. - Ruth Ellen Christensen, 79, of Gerry died of complications of a stroke Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, at Heritage Village Nursing Home in Gerry.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Sheridan United Methodist Church.

The body was donated to the University of Buffalo Medical Center.

Dohn Funeral Home of Amherst , New York is in charge of arrangements.

She was born Feb. 18, 1928, in Terre Haute, Ind., to Leo and Eva (Patterson) Christensen.

Survivors include her brother, James of North Liberty, Iowa, and his family; and sister, Martha of Madison, Wis.

Additional survivors include her sister-in-law, Marlys Christensen of Valentine, Neb.

Throughout her youth, she summered with her family at Miller, Neb., but wintered in Lincoln, Neb. She graduated from Northeast High School in Lincoln and from the University of Nebraska, obtaining her doctor of medicine degree in 1954. After further training in internal medicine in New Orleans, she practiced in Miller from 1962 until 1981 and served a large area of western Buffalo County and adjacent counties.

She moved in 1981 to practice in Lockport and at the Erie County Medical Center before retiring to Brocton.

She maintained ties all her life to her family's roots in and around Miller and Kearney, Neb.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Richard Christensen.

Memorials are suggested to the University of Nebraska College of Medicine in Omaha or to the United Methodist Church of Miller.

Dr. Ruth was a wonderful asset to the town of Miller for many years. We will remember her fondly.
