Barbara Bringman Obituary

Barbara Ellen (Ehli) Bringman born August 12, 1921, passed away on July 30, 2024, at the age of 102. She was born to John J and Rosalia (Hager) Ehli as the fifth of eight children. She spent her early life in Ziebach and Dewey counties attending rural county schools and graduated from Eagle Butte High School. Barbara married Berton Bringman in Orofino, Idaho where Berton worked in Civilian Conservation Corp after the Great Depression. Born to this union was Frank, Jean and Peggy. Later they moved to Iowa to Nebraska to Wagon Mound, New Mexico where Burton worked for the Diamond A Cattle Company. In 1953, while visiting family in Eagle Butte, South Dakota Bert suddenly passed away. Barbara and her children stayed in South Dakota where she later married Glen (Tiny) Bringman. Three children Marian, John and Barbara were born to this union. In 1960, they purchased the Harding Motel where Barbara ran it for 40 years. Barbara was also a contributing member of All Saints Catholic Parish family for many years especially the All-Saints Altar Society and assisted with many events. In 2001 retirement took them to Rapid City, South Dakota to live closer to her family members. Barbara later moved to Sioux Falls to live with her daughter, Barbara. She decidedly wanted to remain independent and moved into an apartment where she volunteered for Meals on Wheels at the Senior Center in Sioux Falls for several years. As her health started to fail, she moved to into an assistant living facility and then into a nursing home. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Berton and Glen, her sisters (Katherine, Regina, Angie, Phyllis, Anna-Marie) and brother (Wendel), great grandson Barry Tyrrell, great granddaughters Ahakila Gallegos and Olivia Schuler. She is survived by her children Frank (Betty Ann) of Ridgeview, SD, Jean (Jerry) Perrett of Rapid City, SD, Peggy (Ray) Mischkot of Bodega Bay, CA, Marian Tyrrell of Portage WI, John Bringman of Rapid City SD, and Barbara (Greg) Schuler of Sioux Falls, SD, one sister, Caroline Rioux, fifteen grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren and seven great, great grandchildren. We would like to thank all the family and friends who took the time to send cards and letters, stopped in to visit and especially the nursing staff who provided her with a safe and happy place for her to spend her final days. A graveside blessing will be held at the Eagle Butte Cemetery on September 10, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. Mountain Time. Fellowship and light refreshments will take place after the graveside blessing in Eagle Butte at the UCC Church. All are welcome. Given the rural location of the the cemetery, a piece of black cloth will be tied around the stop sign on HWY 212 to help mark the turn to locate the cemetery.
