www.plattecrc.org. Clair Dyk was born on December 1, 1936 to Harm and Nancy (Dykstra) Dyk on the family farm near Platte, SD. He attended Platte Christian Schools but didn't complete high school as he was needed on the farm. As a young man he drove truck, but when it came time to marry, he chose farming over trucking. On June 3, 1958 Clair was united in marriage to Pearl Marguerite Vanden Bos at the Platte Christian Reformed Church. They farmed 9 miles NW of Platte and their family grew, adding 2 sons and 3 daughters. They farmed for the next 47 years. They saw many challenges over those years, but they worked hard and stayed in it. Clair especially enjoyed the cattle business.
Clair was an active member of the Platte Christian Reformed Church, serving as an Elder and Deacon. He grew in his faith with those experiences and was especially fond of Pastor Dr. Lammers. He enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with friends and family. He also loved to tell a good story and have a good laugh.
Clair and Pearl retired from farming in 2005 and built a home in Platte. During retirement, he stayed busy by driving for Olson Trucking and mowing for Platte Christian Reformed Church, the Christian School and New Hope Christian Camp.
Late in 2015 Clair was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Pearl was also living with a serious condition, so they decided to make the move to Assisted Living in Sioux Falls to be near 2 of their daughters and medical treatments. Clair made many trips to Mayo Clinic over the next 4.5 years to address the Lymphoma. He was very grateful to those who helped him with those trips.
Grateful for having shared in Clair's life are his five children: Jeff (Jamie) Dyk of Billings, MT, Scott (Beth) Dyk of Williston, ND, Paula (Jon) Edwards of Sioux Falls, SD, Gina (Bruce) Jansen of Pella, IA and Alesia (Bernie) Vande Griend of Sioux Falls, SD; 14 grandchildren: Tyler (Devin) Dyk, Tiffany (Sam) Catlin, Tanner Dyk, Samuel (Jennifer) Dyk, Becky (Bryan) Brock, Bethany (Jason) Wenaas, Abigail Peterson, Jacob Peterson, Ben (Cory) Jansen, Lucas Jansen, Levi Jansen, Brandon Vande Griend, Bailey Vande Griend and Alex Vande Griend; 13 great grandchildren; five siblings: Harriett Namminga of Springfield, SD, Henrietta Star of Mitchell, SD, Gerald Dyk of Platte, SD, Carolyn (Fred) Hofman of Brookfield, WI and Billie (Sam) Childress of West Chicago, IL; a brother-in-law, Dan (Lori) Vanden Bos of Rapid City, SD; two sisters-in-law: Joyce Mellema of Rock Rapids, IA and Kathleen Vanden Bos of Sturgis, MI; along with many nieces and nephews.
