Glenn Dannen Obituary

Glenn LeRoy Dannen, 75, of Sioux Falls, SD passed away peacefully at Avera McKennan Hospital on Tuesday, October 4, 2022. Glenn was born on Mother's Day May 11, 1947, in Sioux Falls, SD to Roy and Grace Dannen. He attended West Sioux and Garfield Elementary, Edison Junior High and graduated from Washington High School. He continued his education and earned his BS degree in Business at the National College of Business. Glenn married Cheryl Keefer in 1966. In this union, Trevor and Danielle were born. Glenn married Dorothy Dannen in 1981. Their Saturday date night tradition was admired by many. Glenn showed his unconditional love for his family as he adopted Dorothy's children; Richard, Christopher and Mary in 1981. Glenn traveled the country and lived in New Port News, Virginia, Long Ben, Vietnam, Sea Side, California, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Littlerock, Arkansas, Brandon, South Dakota, Magnolia, Minnesota, Tea, South Dakota and Sioux Falls, SD. Glenn spent several of his years defending and supporting our country with his military involvement. He enlisted in the US Army in 1966 and served in the Vietnam War. He later joined the Air National Guard in 1970 where he continued to serve until he retired in 1991. His career journey not only included his honorable military service, but also included positions with Arkansas Power and Light, Safeway Grocery Store, Terrace Park Dairy, Gateway, West 12th Street Oil, Midwest Tropicals, and Harrisburg School District. Glenn always had a passion for cars. He often talked about drag racing in his younger years. He tinkered in the garage on one of his own vehicles or would help his children with theirs. He shared his love for races with his children as he would bring them to Huset's every Sunday and later enjoyed those moments with his grandchildren. In addition to Huset's he also attended the races in Knoxville, Hartford and Rock Rapids. Glenn also enjoyed the vintage cars at the car shows and cruise night. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Grace (Jacobs) Dannen and his wife Dorothy Dannen. Grateful for having shared his life are: his brother, Roger Dannen; his children, Richard Dannen (Sarah), Christopher Dannen (Karleen), Mary Hilligas (Christopher); grandchildren, Shianne, Kaytlyn and Destany Hilligas, Elizabeth and Xavier Dannen and several special nieces and nephews. Visitation, with family present, will be at Heritage Funeral Home on Thursday, October 6, 2022, from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Glenn's funeral will take place at 11:00 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home on Friday, October 7, 2022, with military honors and lunch to follow the service. A private burial will take place at a later date where Glenn will be laid to rest next to his wife in the Chancellor Reformed Cemetery.
