Jeff Iverson 1954 – 2025 "All the leaves are brown, and the sky is gray." ~ Momma's and the Poppa's Jeffrey Alvin Iverson, age 71, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away on October 9, 2025. Jeff was born in Watertown, SD, to Alvin and Dorothy Iverson on February 5, 1954. Jeff attended school in Watertown, SD, and continued his college education at Dakota State University, where he met many friends who became family. In 1975, Jeff married the love of his life, Linda, and together they shared 50 years of marriage built on love, laughter, and deep commitment. He was a proud and devoted father to his children - Sarah, Diana, and Kevin - and found immense joy in being a grandfather to Raigan, Izzy, and Olive. Jeff was a constant presence at their events, cheering them on and encouraging their interests with quiet strength, unwavering support, and the occasional tear or two. A lifelong educator, Jeff dedicated his career to teaching and sharing his passion for history and government with generations of students. His love for learning and storytelling left a lasting impact in the classroom and beyond. Jeff had a heart as sweet as his tooth - a lover of Diet Coke, his Beatles records, and a well-timed dessert. His love for "all the lonely people" and "getting by with a little help from his friends" was evident in the quiet way he cared for those around him. Jeff is survived by his wife, Linda (Henglefelt) Iverson of Sioux Falls, SD, daughter Diana (Jeremy) Johnson of Sioux Falls, SD, son Kevin (Amy) Iverson of Verona, Wisconsin, granddaughters Raigan Johnson, Izzy Johnson, and Olive Iverson, brother Rod (Nancy) Iverson of Watertown, Brother-in-laws Robert (Linda) Henglefelt of Ethan, SD, and Gary (Janet) Henglefelt of Scottsdale, AZ along with several nieces and nephews. Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Dorothy Iverson, his beloved daughter, Sarah Iverson, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ross and Virginia Henglefelt, and many dear family and friends who now welcome him into his eternal home. A service will be held to honor Jeff's life at Messiah New Hope Lutheran Church at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 24, 2025, with a lunch to follow. Interment will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery, Ethan, SD. Family will be present for visitation from 4:00- 6:00 p.m at Heritage Funeral Home on Thursday, October 23, 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages acts of kindness in Jeff's memory - support a local teacher or school, your local animal shelter, or the Jefferson High School Show Choir.

So many wonderful memories of Jeff and the rest of the Iverson family while they were at American Lutheran Church in Huron. They treated our kids as part of their family and we did the same to theirs. Jeff was such a sweet, caring man whose heart was always for others. We know how very much that he will be missed! But also know that all of the illnesses and physical pains he endured for years are now gone and that no one would want him to stay with us here on earth and continue those trials on his body. He knew how much that he was loved. We believe that to be true. And where Jeff is now, we believe that he would not want to leave that paradise either even though his love for his family was endless. We love you and pray for peace and comfort for you as you lay Jeff to rest.

I was saddened to hear of Jeff’s passing. I had the privilege of working with him during his time in Lake Andes, and I remember him as a kind, insightful, and steady presence. Jeff had a way of making people feel heard and valued, and his thoughtful approach to his calling left a lasting impression on those around him. He was someone you could count on—for his wisdom, his humor, and his genuine care for others. My deepest condolences to his family and all who loved him. May his memory continue to inspire the many lives he touched.

Jeff, you had an important impact on the lives of the students you taught. Those you taught would go on and impact the lives of many others who would further benefit from your teaching. Teachers affect the lives of many beyond those who sit in their classroom. Those students who move one will take a piece of Jeff with them; his humor, his knowledge, his wisdom. Your life was and is important and vital to many, particularly Linda, your children and grandchildren, and the students you taught,.

Linda and family, there are no words. Although our friendship with Jeff was not as long as others, we feel blessed to have been a part of his life. He was kind and giving, and even though he didn’t always feel well, his spirit was strong.
