Lynette Honner Obituary

Private services for the immediate family only will be held Monday, February 8, 2021, at Heritage Funeral Home due to Covid concerns. The funeral is not open to the public. However, a Zoom link is posted on the bottom of Lynette's obituary to watch her service virtually. Lynette Marie Honner passed away peacefully on Friday, February 5, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, with family by her side. She was born April 22, 1949, in Wagner, SD, to Phyllis (Burke) Rezac and Robert Rezac. She grew up the oldest of 9 siblings in Wagner, SD, and was proud of her small-town roots. Great memories were made with friends and family over a soda fountain Coca-Cola, Long John donut, or the Spot Cafe’s hot beef. She married Gary Honner on December 27, 1968, and they enjoyed 52 years of marriage. As a family, special memories were made camping and sitting around a campfire under the stars at the Missouri River. Lynette loved decorating her house for the holidays, and especially enjoyed holiday gatherings and celebrations. Lynette moved to Sioux Falls in August 1979, where she spent more than 40 years operating an in-home daycare. Lynette had a big heart that was shared not only with the children she cared for, but also with countless others over the years who thought of her as a second mom. She loved her role as grandma to 14 of the best grandkids around. They will remember her for keeping great snacks in her cupboards, hosting sleepovers, and summertime pool parties. It was the simple things in life that made her happiest. Things like sitting by a warm fireplace, laughing with her brothers and sisters, watching and cheering for her favorite sports teams, offering someone a place to rest their head or lending a listening ear, baking German chocolate cake and kolaches, and watching her flowers bloom in the springtime. Grateful for sharing her life are her children Steve (Dana) Honner, Sioux Falls, SD, Scott (Paige) Honner, Sioux Falls, SD, Nicki (Brandon) Hess, Fort Collins, CO, Becki Smith, Livingston, MT, and Kelli (Brian) Spader, Sioux Falls, SD, grandchildren Jerzy, Danni, Brecli, Max, Luke, Macy, Josi, Jhaimann, Briggs, Nash, Hawthorne, Oliver, Eames and Teak, and great-grandchildren Mac and Mesa. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her infant sister Barbara. There is a headstone in a cemetery in Ireland that reads, “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.” Lynette touched many people’s lives, and her memory can best be honored through laughter and an appreciation for life’s simple joys. It's been some time since I was with Lynette, but will always remember her hardy laugh. We had some good times together when Gary and I were in the Guard band in Mitchel and I would pick him up on the way to drill from Bonesteel.

I love this photo of Lynette - - this is how I will always remember her. We were college roommates and had so much fun together. Many treasured memories of this wonderful lady. We lost touch for several years but then reconnected thru Facebook. I will always be grateful for that. So Lynette, you had a full life and I know your family meant everything to you. So rest in peace, Dear Friend. I will never forget you.

So many wonderful memories, of Lynette, when my folks ran the Spot Cafe, she came in a lot, because, she married Garry Honner, and their store was across the street from the cafe, many times Lynette and Myself would sit in a small booth and have lunch together, and just chat. She was such a kind caring lady. May God grant you all peace and comfort at this difficult time.

Oh sister! You were my rock. You were my confidant. You were my 2nd Mom. I always had you to turn to when things were a messier I was just so oblivious on how to do this or that. You always have been there for me with your wise words of the wisdom when I was struggling with how to care for my child when they were babies, or would enlighten me, when they became teenagers and needed your knowledge and direction even more. And let’s be real I wouldn’t know how to cook the bohemian specialties if you wouldn’t of walked me through so very many steps of how Mom used to make It. You gave me a roof over my head as well as 8 of our other siblings. You and Gary never asked for anything from us. So many unselfish things you did for us siblings, from taking us to the Shrine Circus, in Yankton, to the many Drive In Movies in Lake Andes and if we weren’t attending a drive in movie in Lake you were taking us to the races there instead, oh I can not forget to Thank You for the many trips to North Point Beach and sledding down the ginormous hills at Fort Randall Dam on our 8 man toboggan. Oh and the many trips to Rapid City and listening to the 60’s music, which is why to this day I listen to 60’s on 6. I have so many more things to be thankful for and could just go on and on. Before I end this note to you Lyn; I want you to know that a piece of me will forever be with you in Heaven. Until we meet again.
