Rita Honner Obituary

Rita J. Honner

Rita J. Honner passed away on January 24, 2024, at the age of 94. She was born in Maumee, Ohio, on June 15, 1929, the eldest of three and the only daughter of Julius and Ella Tasch Brahier. Rita lived her entire life in Maumee, graduating from Maumee High School in 1947. She went on to attend Mary Manse College and Bowling Green State University.

Rita met the love of her life, Glenn Honner, at Tomlinson's Drugstore in uptown Maumee, where she worked with his sister. They went on to marry in 1950, eventually welcoming two daughters. Rita and Glenn enjoyed 61 years together, before he passed away in 2012, after years of Rita's devoted care. They both loved following sports, especially baseball, and took up golf as empty-nesters, setting off on golf trips with friends, as well as other travels. They also made regular trips to California to spend time with daughter Pam and her family.

Rita was an avid reader, an outstanding cook, hostess, and homemaker, and an avid gardener. She also enjoyed needlepoint, crafts, and knitting, and her family were the lucky recipients of her beautiful afghans. Rita found a new outlet for her creativity when she became a Girl Scout leader. She loved Scouting and volunteered for 15 years, well after her own girls had left the program, notably being the first leader honored with the Thanks Badge, Scouting's highest honor for volunteers. Rita also spent 22 years volunteering weekly at St. Luke's Hospital in the chaplain's office.

Rita was a devoted and loving caregiver who will be terribly missed by her family. She is survived by her daughters, Pamela Honner (Hal) Licht, Diane (Paul) Forquer; grandchildren, Ryan (Tasha Perdue) Forquer, Lindsay (Taylor) Sopko, Megan (Pablo) Kovacs, Adam (Melanie) Licht, and Evan (Hannah) Licht. Also surviving her are her brother, Milton and wife, Patricia Brahier, and sister-in-law, Bertha Honner, as well as six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Rita was predeceased by her brother, Robert.

Special thanks goes out to the staff at Elizabeth Scott Community and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their loving care. Private services will be held. Condolences may be made to the family online at www.walkerfuneralhomes.com.
