Theodore Schoenhard Obituary

Theodore "Ted" Edward Schoenhard, aged 73, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, March 8th, 2024, at his home in Sneads Ferry, North Carolina. Born on February 25th, 1951 in Mitchell, South Dakota. Ted was the cherished son of Lee (Leland) Schoenhard and Ruth Schoenhard, and a beloved brother to Don Schoenhard and Larry Schoenhard. Ted spent his early years in Chamberlain, SD where he graduated from Chamberlain High School. Ted went on to pursue higher education at the University of South Dakota (USD), where he was a proud brother of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and graduated with a degree in business. His journey led him to Sioux Falls, where he forged a distinguished career as one of the region's most prominent and successful stockbrokers for over 25 years. Starting at Dain Bosworth and concluding at Charles Schwab. Ted was a brilliant man. Ted's expertise and dedication made him a respected figure leaving a lasting mark on the financial sector. Ted's greatest joys in life were his family and his home. He was a devoted husband to Kim Schoenhard and a loving father to his children, son Brian Schoenhard and daughter Dena Schoenhard. Ted's family extended to include his stepson, Ryan Rue, and his beloved grandchildren, Montana Schoenhard and Phoenix Madsen, whom he cherished dearly. Ted shared a beautiful life with his wife, Kim Schoenhard in Sioux Falls. Ted's love for his outdoor backyard, koi pond and deck was evident to all who visited. His backyard in Sioux Falls was a gathering place famously referred to as "the perch," where friends and family would come together to share stories, laughter, and drinks. The Perch served as the heart of their household. Ted's welcoming nature and quick wit endeared him to all who knew him. His custom sign proclaiming "Welcome to Schoney's" was a testament to his hospitality. He found solace in the simple pleasures of life, often enjoying a cigarette, werther's candy, a cocktail cranking his tunes and "people-watching" from his perch. Ted's warm hospitality made his home a gathering place for laughter, conversation, and shared memories. Ted was a deeply beloved father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, brother, and friend. His sudden passing, though quick and painless as he had hoped, has left a void in the lives of those who knew him. Ted's charm, humor, and steadfast loyalty endeared him to many, making him a pillar of strength and support. Though Ted may no longer be with us in person, his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who were touched by his kindness, humor, and love. Rest in peace, dear Ted. You will be deeply missed. Ted is survived by his children, son Brian Schoenhard, daughter Dena Schoenhard, stepson Ryan Rue, grandchildren Montana Schoenhard and Phoenix Madsen. Brothers Don Schoenhard (Nancy) and Larry Schoenhard (Linea), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He is preceded in death by his wife Kim Schoenhard, his parents, father Lee (Leland) Schoenhard and mother Ruth Schoenhard (Conley). A memorial service to celebrate Ted's life will be held on Saturday, March 23rd, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home, followed by burial at Hills of Rest in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. All who knew and loved Ted are invited to join his family for a lunch at the Paramount in downtown Sioux Falls at 2:00 PM to honor his memory, share stories and celebrate his remarkable life.
