Born: July 27, 1938; in Joliet, IL

Died: Nov. 7, 2015; in Sandwich, IL

Gerald J. Berard, age 77, of Plano, IL passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2015, at Valley West Community Hospital in Sandwich, IL, lovingly surrounded by his family.

He was born on July 27, 1938, in Joliet, IL the son of Robert and Josephine (Perush) Berard. He graduated from Joliet Township High School (1956), Joliet Junior College and Lewis University.

Gerald was united in marriage to Deanna (McCarthy) on September 21, 1957, and they spent the next 58 happy years together. Mr. Berard was a longtime and very active member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Plano, IL. He served as a Past President and was the current Secretary of its Holy Name Society. Gerald was employed by Reynolds Metal in McCook, IL. He was later employed as an Insurance Adjuster for several agencies including Allstate, Farmers, Union Insurance, and Littleton Claims Service. He was an avid fisherman, golfer, hunter and a member of Ducks Unlimited. Gerald was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and a good friend to many.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Deanna Berard of Plano, IL; his daughters, Laurie (Robert) Reattoir of Geneva, IL and Allison (Joshua) Kropp of Yorkville, IL; his grandchildren, Samantha and Ethan Reattoir and Mason Kropp; his sister, Joan (John) Lesnik of Lockport, IL; and his brother, James (Jean) Berard of Arnold, MD; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Josephine Berard; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 11, 2015, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 1001 N. Center Ave. in Plano, IL with Father Andy Davy, M.I.C., officiating. Interment will be private. There will be a brief visitation on Wednesday, from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Friends may visit from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 10, 2015, at the Larson-Nelson Funeral Home, 1010 W. South St. in Plano, IL.

So sorry to hear of Gerry's passing. Thoughts and prayers to your family. My memories of duck hunting with Gerry always make me smile, mostly because we both shot and he actually hit something, yet made me feel like I did. He will be missed. God Bless this incredible man.
