Gordon Ronald 'Gordy' Herman
Gordon Ronald Herman, "Gordy," 79, of Lady Lake, Florida passed away at Cornerstone Hospice surrounded by his good friends, Bev and Dave.
He was born March 11, 1946, the son of the late Violet and Allen Sagerhorn. Gordon was born in Harvey, North Dakota, and moved to West Chicago, IL in his grade school years. He graduated from high school at West Chicago High School, and went into the Air Force where he served in Vietnam. He was married to the late Teresa Herman. He then went on to marry his loving wife, Linda in 1995, and together the two shared many years of love and happiness. They lived in Aurora, Sandwich, and Leland, IL before moving to The Villages in Lady Lake, Florida, so that he could live his dream retirement golfing every day.
He was an avid golfer, and in his younger years, was a good bowler with one 300 game and many trophies. He loved to camp, hike, play volleyball, and softball. He was a member of the Federated Presbyterian and North lake Presbyterian Church, and he was a member of the church choir. He loved golfing with his grandson, Jake, and all his many golf buddies. He had special memories with all his grandkids, and never missed an opportunity to spend time with them. Many hours of watching their favorite movies with them and attending sports events, taking them to the park and many memories made on family vacations.
He worked at Mercy Center Hospital as Supervisor of Engineering, and then worked at Ruddy Bros Construction, and then back to Mercy Center Hospital where he retired. In retirement, he took a side job at the Hilltop and Silverlake Golf Courses for The Villages. Anytime he could be golfing he would, whether it was putting or on the course with his friends, he would be there. He made many friends in Florida and golfed with them any chance he had. His friends and neighbors were there for him during his later days with dementia, keeping him active and helping Linda wherever they could - even after his passing with their love and support. Thanks to life long friend/best man Ric Olson. Special thanks to Mike for never letting him feel like he didn't know where his ball went. Also, special thanks to Bev and Dave for being there with him in his last hours.
Gordon is survived by his loving wife, Linda Herman; his children, Cari Beavers (Robert), and Sharon Hall (Bill); stepsons, Jason Radomski (April) and Jeff Radomski (Tiffany); grandchildren, Ashly Beavers, Jacob Beavers, Jocelyn Radomski, Noelani Radomski, Bill Hall, Gianna Hall; siblings, Shirley Rankin (Rick) and Lois Blair; brothers-in law, Tom Chivari (Julie) and Frank Mylan (Diane), and many niecesand nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Allen Sagerhorn and Violet Sagerhorn; sisters, Barb Davis, and Marilyn Caquelin; and ex-wife, Teresa Herman.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to be announced, and he will be put to rest at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell at that time.
