Died: July 3, 2016; in Oswego, IL
Leon M. McNair, Jr., age 75, of Oswego, IL died Sunday, July 3, 2016 at his residence. He was born May 15, 1941 in Amsterdam, NY the son of the late Leon M. and May nee Gade McNair.
Leon moved to Illinois and played on the golf team at both Glenbard West High School and Southern Illinois University where the team won the NCAA Division II National Championship in 1964. He earned a degree in advertising and public relations.
Leon went on to become the director of golf and manager of Fox Bend Golf Course in Oswego, IL for 38 years. He was a member of the Illinois PGA Board for 31 years serving as President 1991-1992 and received the Professional of the Year Award in 1992. Leon was inducted into the Illinois Golf Hall of Fame in 2015. And, finally he has been President of the Wadsworth Golf Charities Foundation for the past 11 years.
Survivors include his wife Carole Anne nee Mertes McNair, two sons John (Doris) McNair of San Diego, CA, Jamie (Lara) McNair of Allen, TX, three grandsons Nicholas Born, Reece McNair, Michael John McNair, a brother Jim (Diane) McNair, a sister-in-law Kathy McNair and a brother-in-law Tom (Rena) Berowski and his mother-in-law Carolyn Mertes Manella.
He was preceded in death by a brother Jerry McNair and brother-in-law Art Mertes.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, July 10, 2016 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at the DUNN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME 1801 Douglas Road, Oswego, IL. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Revs John Ouper and Dan Stempora on Monday, July 11, 2016 at 11:00 AM at St. Anne Catholic Church 551 Boulder Hill Pass, Oswego, IL. Cremation followed by burial at Pearce Cemetery in Oswego, IL will occur at a later date.

DEAR CAROL,
I HAVE NOT SEEN YOU SINCE THE 25TH TKE GOLF OUTING. WE WERE AT THE FIRST ONE WITH OUR VERY SMALL CHILDREN. YOU AND LEON WERE THE PERFECT HOSTS THEN AND ALL THOSE YEARS. I THINK MARV EVEN WON A SECOND PLACE TROPHY AT THE FIRST OUTING. WE PROBABLY ATTENDED AT LEAST THE FIRST FIVE YEARS. OVER THE YEARS CARL HAS KEPT ME ABREAST OF ALL THE FAMILIES OF THE PEOPLE THAT I KNEW AT SIU. YOUR FAMILY WAS ALWAYS ONE OF THE FAMILIES.
I WAS SORRY TO HEAR OF LEON'S ILLNESS AND NOW HIS PASSING. MY PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU AND THE FAMILY AT THIS TIME. JUDY KOHLMAN LEVY

Carole, John and Jamie,
So sorry to hear about Leon's passing. I will cherish the memories that I have of him and will remember him as a person who would do anything for anyone.
He was truly one of the great ones and will be missed.....

Dear Family,
Leon lived life the way he played the game he so loved. Head held high showing nothing but class and being a great example and role model to those who had the honor of being in his presence. Kind, gentile, yet so strong.
We are thankful for the times we shared and are comforted in knowing that his last struggle is over and he is now having the peace he so deserved and earned for all the good he did here on earth.
