We celebrate the life of Lois F. Hamilton (nee Wathen), who passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on Sunday, May 12, 2024, at The Springs at Monarch Landing in Naperville, IL. Lois was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was born on December 28, 1937, in Flaherty, KY.
Lois grew up in Flaherty, KY, where she lived on a farm with her six sisters and one brother. She was a 1956 graduate of Flaherty High School, Vine Grove, KY, where she was an active member of the cheer team.
Lois married the love of her life, the late Samuel T. "Sam" Hamilton, on August 31, 1957. They moved to Detroit, where Lois worked as a bookkeeper and at a grocery store to support Sam through college. They later settled in the Chicago area, living in Woodridge, IL, and Lake Holiday in Sandwich, IL, before moving to Naperville. Lois embraced her role as a mother to four children and created a home filled with love, laughter, faith, and family values. She was a gathering place for many neighborhood friends. Once her children were in school, Lois worked as a school bus driver and was endeared by the many students she drove.
Lois was a current member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Naperville and a former member of St. Joan of Arc in Lisle and St. John the Baptist in Somonauk. She was deeply involved in her community through various volunteer activities, including Meals on Wheels, the Hospital Auxiliary, and the Lake Holiday Ladies Club. Lois used her sewing talents to make masks during the pandemic and baby blankets for charities. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, attending their sporting events, baking them cookies, playing cards, and joking around. Lois also enjoyed socializing with friends, playing bridge, dominos, and participating in Wii bowling clubs at Monarch Landing and Fox Valley Older Adults. She was a friend to many and beloved by all who crossed her path.
Lois is survived by her loving children, Debbie Hamilton of Downers Grove, IL, Bruce (Sunaree) Hamilton of Willow Springs, IL, Doug (Kim) Hamilton of Naperville, IL, and Sandy (Dave) Reeser of Bartlett, IL. She was an adored grandmother to Nida (Brian) Siefferman, Kristy (Kaitlyn) Barriere Hamilton, Ben and Genevieve Hamilton, Jake, Nate, and Luke Reeser, and a cherished great-grandmother to Samantha "Sammy" Siefferman. Lois was the devoted daughter of the late Joseph Dennis "Cotton" and Anna Delphine (nee Redmond) Wathen and a dear sister to Rosie (the late G.D.) Medley, Patsy (the late David) Crutcher, Mary Jo (the late Phil) Medley, Beth (Dude) Minter, Joe (Carol) Wathen, the late Dot Walker, and the late Janet (Tony) Taylor.
