Mary Ellen Walker, 93, died February 22, 2025. Mary Ellen called both Yorkville and Murray, Kentucky her home. She was born March 31, 1931 in Lisbon, attended high school and raised her family in Yorkville, retired in Murray, and returned to Yorkville for her bonus years. She lived most recently at Cedarhurst and was faithfully served there by her DMA caregivers whom she adopted as extended family (and their children, too). Mary Ellen married Luther Walker on July 21, 1948. She worked first in the school cafeterias, then at Fox Valley Shopper, and finally at the County Building and Zoning Office. But, her fondest memories were of the volunteer job she shared with Luther starting and chaperoning the Fox's Lair. She was an avid sports fan and she went from cheering for the Foxes to cheering for Murray State where she became a sports booster and season ticket holder. During all of this she kept busy parenting, grandparenting, and great-grandparenting with all the love she had. Mary Ellen helped lead the Children's Choir at Yorkville Congregational Church. In retirement she sang in the choir at the First United Methodist Church in Murray, Kentucky. Finally, back in Illinois, she attended AuSable Grove Presbyterian Church in Yorkville. She was known for her warm heart that was big enough to take in everyone she met. We will miss her smile, her sincerity and her hugs. She is preceded in death by her husband, Luther; mother, Ellen Skinner; siblings, George, Laurence, and Joyce Sebby. She is survived by daughter Joyce (Del) Heap-Brandt (Florida), son Brad, son Jon (Laurie), 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gentiva Hospice www.gentivahsp.com A reception and service will be held at the AuSable Grove Presbyterian Church, 5021 Wheeler Road, Yorkville, Illinois on March 29, 2025 as follows: 10:00 am-12:00 noon Reception; 12:00 noon Celebration of Life Service; and afterwards a meal for the family and friends. Another celebration will be held in Murray Kentucky later this spring.
