Tolo and Valland family

May 31, 2021

Mrs. Hagen and family
We have received the sad message of Paul´s death.

20 years ago, Paul came to visit his relatives and see his forefather´s land.

He stayed at the Valland farm where his great-grandmother grew up.
We remember him standing in the garden at Valland, looking at the orchards, the fjord, the mountains and one of Norway biggest glaciers that is shining white all summer.

"I wonder what my forefathers felt when they left this", he said

Paul went to Tolohagen, the piece of land where his surname comes from, and where his grandfather was born.

There we remember him climbing into the hollow trunk of an ancient ashtree. He was told that his grandfather most likely played around that tree when he was a child.

Later Paul had several trips back to Norway. Together with Eileen and with Jennifer. Once Marion also came with him.

Several of us have enjoyed time together with him and his family in the USA.

He showed us his America, where his family settled after the immigration. We visited Stephanie and Jennifer. He brought us around to see graveyards, churches, farmland, the Polaris factory and to Caterpillar. He drove us all the way to Roseau.

Paul was eagerly studying family relations.
Paul showed that he was happy to have good relations to his Norwegian relatives.

To us he was generous, open and including.

We feel deep gratitude for this. We do hope that the contact established will go on through the years to come.

Our deepest condolences to all his beloved ones.
Our hopes and prayers are with you.

God bless the good legacy Paul Hagen leaves behind. Give Eileen and all her family strength to tackle the loss.

Love from relatives of Tolohagen and of Valland.
