William Rung, age 70, of Portage, IN, passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
William is survived by his spouse of 35 years, Cynthia (nee Lehmann Witherbee) Rung; son, Jerrold Rung of Portage, IN; daughter, Megan Rung-Kelleher (Jared) of Dyersville, Iowa. William is also survived by his brother, John (Rachel) Rung of Johnsburg, IL; and sister, Constance Walker of Los Angeles, CA.
William was preceded in death by his father, Albert M. Rung; mother, Luella Conrad Rung; and brother Robert Rung.
He was a 1973 graduate of Oswego High School where he wrestled and played football. For most of his life he was a resident of Boulder Hill.
William served in the Army for six years as a helicopter crew chief/repair in the 147th Avn Co., 25th Inf Div.
William spent most of his working career at Ace Metal Refinishers where he managed their fleet of vehicles as well as purchasing supplies. He spent the end of his working career as a technical sales consultant at G.J. Nikolas & Co.
William loved telling stories and helping people solve their problems. He also enjoyed fishing, scuba diving, target shooting, as well as model trains and photography. William was a lifelong Chicago Bears fan.
Friends could visit with the family on Saturday, August 23, 2025 from 9:00 AM until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church, 2949 Willowcreek Rd., Portage, IN 46368. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lily Cremation & Burial in Portage, IN.
William will be laid to rest at a later date at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
