Alfred J. Wienke

Alfred J. Wienke, age 90, of Gurnee, Ill., passed away peacefully in Libertyville, Ill., on September 3, 2025, with family by his side. He was born May 21, 1935, in Waukegan, Ill., to Wesley and Esther (Grulich) Wienke. Alfred graduated from Zion Benton High School in Zion, Ill., in 1952. He also graduated from The Lake Forest School of Management. After graduation Alfred married his wife, Eleanore (Kangas) on January 12, 1957, in Waukegan, Ill. Alfred and Eleanore were residents of Gurnee, Ill., for over 64 years. Alfred was a Foreman with Outboard Marine Corporation for over 20 years before his retirement. Alfred loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Alfred enjoyed gardening and was an avid fisherman. He loved to take his grandchildren fishing in Hurley, Wis., where Eleanore was born and raised. The grandchildren enjoyed fishing with them and have many great memories of the time shared together with their grandfather. Alfred was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waukegan, Ill. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by two children, Lynn Deram of Grayslake, Ill., and Scott (Margie) Wienke of Pleasant Prairie, Wis.; four grandchildren, Daniel (Tiffani) Wienke of Kenosha, Wis., Kyle (Cassandra) Wienke of Wadsworth, Ill., Lauren Wienke of Racine, Wis., Matthew Zorc of Kenosha, Wis.; five great grandchildren, Willow, Braden, Monroe and Walker Wienke of Wadsworth, Ill., Johnathan Wienke of Kenosha, Wis.; brother, Floyd Wienke of Wadsworth, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews. Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Esther Wienke; wife, Eleanore; brothers, Albert, Marvin, Gerald and Donald Wienke; and son in-law, Thomas Deram. Visitation will be held at the Congdon Funeral Home in Zion, Ill., on Saturday, September 20, 2025, beginning at 10 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 12 p.m., officiated by Pastor Colin Cranmer of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
