Gary Legler Obituary

Gary Legler

March 24, 1952 - March 29, 2025

Gary Legler, 73, of Kenosha, Wis., and Venice, Fla., passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2025, in Florida.

Born on March 24, 1952, in Kenosha, Wis.; he was the son of the late Victor and Loris (Bufton) Legler. He attended Kenosha public schools. He was a 1970 graduate of Tremper High School and received a Master of Science in Management at Cardinal Stritch University.

Gary served in the Army National Guard of Wisconsin until he was honorably discharged.

On August 20, 2005, he married Joan Bailey at Kenosha Country Club.

He was employed as an Adjunct Professor at Cardinal Stritch University, Manager EAP at Daimler Chrysler and Chrysler LLC as Manager of Human Resources, Engine Production and Planning Time & Change, until his retirement, and Director of Facilities at Power Solutions International, Ill.

Gary enjoyed and competed playing racquetball. He was a contracted player for Team Ektelon. In his earlier years, he played drums in a wedding band. He loved taking long rides on his Harley, with his wife as a passenger, until he changed his thrill of traveling in his Corvette. His joy was dancing. He loved Polka, waltzing and mostly heading to Nashville to dance country and visit with many band members. In 2017, he spent winters in Venice, Fla., until Gary and Joan moved to Florida permanently in 2022. Every evening, he would take his fishing pole and fish right outside the lanai. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. He loved spending time with family and friends.

Gary is survived by his wife, Joan Legler originally from Kenosha, Wis., now Venice, Fla.; his son, Eric (Kristina) Legler of Kenosha, Wis.; stepdaughters, Julie (Michael) Capodarco and Nancy (Todd) Stewart; two grandchildren, Adrian and Emmitt Legler; four step-grandchildren, Samantha, Owen, and Dylan Pierce, and Morgan Stewart; and his brother, Kevin (Kris) Legler of Kenosha, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his son, Bryan Legler.

A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Proko Funeral Home from 4 p.m. to the time of the service at 7 p.m. Followed by Full Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials to American Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.

In loving memory of an absolute awesome man. Proud to say, he was my friend. His outgoing personality was enjoyed by many. I thought of him as the mayor of the Kenoshe Moose Lodge, as he knew everybody there, and took the time to shake hands an speak with everyone. My thoughts and prayers go out to Joan and her family

Joan, Kevin & Chris we are so sorry for your loss. Grief is so hard but sharing in special memories will help to ease your pain. We are terribly sorry but we will be out of town so we will not be at Gary´s memorial service. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. Gary was an usher at our wedding 55 years ago. I have know Gary since high school and always liked him - he was very special to us. Again, we are so sorry for your loss. God Bless you as you carry on with his memory. Rest in peace Gary!
