Glenn Sockness Obituary

Glenn Earl Sockness

July 7, 1959 - May 8, 2025

Glenn Earl Sockness, age 65, of Eagle River, Wis. passed away peacefully at home on May 8, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 7, 1959 in Kenosha, Wis.

Glenn was the second of three children. He graduated from Tremper high school in 1977. Glenn considered himself lucky to have had many jobs over the years including stints at Dynamatic, Chrysler, Snap On Tools, Tri-Clover when asked where he retired from he would always say he was the colonel of the urinal at Highland Park High School. Glenn never left a job but unfortunately, he kept getting laid off but considered himself lucky to have met some truly outstanding people along the way and was always ready for the next adventure.

Glenn had a deep love for the simple pleasures in life, whether enjoying a cold beer, placing a wager, or cheering on his beloved Wis. sports teams. Summers were best spent cruising the Eagle River Chain on his pontoon boat or going on UTV trips where he was happiest surrounded by family and friends, and a cooler within reach. Glenn was always the life of the party someone who never missed a good time and made sure no one around him did either.

Glenn is survived by his loving wife Linda, his son Brian (Heather) Sockness, his ex-wife Claudia, his brother Paul and (Jonie May), his sister Terry (Mike ) Schaitel. Proud stepfather to Andrew and Nicholas Johnson and a cherished step grandfather to Melanie, Clara Ava and Asher his brother-in-law's and sister-in-law's and his mother in law Eloda Birch. Glenn held a special place in his heart for his niece Tommi (Andy) Heckler their children, Carson and Tanner his nephew Tyler (Amanda) Schaitel their son Colton. He deeply valued the time he spent with family and friends and left behind.

Countless stories, laughs and memories that will be treasured by all that knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Arlene Sockness.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Glenn's memory to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital. The family would like to extend special thanks to Glenn's lifelong friends Todd Hummel, Tom Peterson, Tom Uttech, and Jay Sorensen for their unwavering friendship support through the years a heartfelt thank you goes out to the team from Compassus that brought comfort to the family during his final days. In true Glenn fashion not to miss a party, a celebration of life was held in February in Kenosha with open bar and food. Thank you to the 200 family and friends that attended.

Glenn was a childhood friend. We would often play in his basement home on 32nd avenue with the steel erector sets, scooting around the floor pushing a red wagon, one driving, one pushing. We made molded edible candy from one of his Christmas gifts. Glenn, Paul, and I and others played killdeer in the backyard, ate green apples from their tree, played hide and seek with flashlights in the summertime. Threw apples at each other from Glen Nugents home to the Sockness' in the alleyway as the apples got overripe. We biked way over to Lance Junior high where a small plane crashed there after it flew overhead spewing black smoke above us. We played football and baseball in the street, kick the can. We were often at Michelle Stauder's house playing with her toy horses, legos and lincoln logs. We explored the church addition as it was being built at 75th street and 32nd. Until my family moved we did a lot of cool stuff. Glenn was a good friend. My sympathies and prayers.
