Joan Cartie Obituary

Joan C. Cartie

1936 - 2016

Joan C. Cartie, 80, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016, at United Hospital Systems-Kenosha Campus with her loving family by her side.

Joan was born on Feb. 6, 1936, in Ironwood, Mich., to the late Walter and Louise (LaForge) Johnson. She graduated from St. Ambrose High School in 1953.

On Oct. 16, 1954, Joan married the love of her life, James Cartie, Sr. at St. John's Catholic Church in Chicago, Ill. They were married for 53 years until James's death on July 5, 2008.

Joan was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who always gave selflessly of herself. She attended St. James Catholic Church and enjoyed gardening, reading, and spending time with her beloved family and friends. Joan will always be remembered for her kindness, storytelling ability and keen sense of humor.

She is survived by her three children, Terri (James) Rasmussen, Joseph Cartie and Noelle Schmickel, all of Kenosha; eight grandchildren, Sarah (Matthew) Braun, John Flores, Jennifer (Loran, Jr.) Dowling, Angie Wilson, Sunny (Christopher) Lursen, William Wilson, Rachel Rasmussen and Austin Erickson; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Richard (Frances) Johnson of Racine; and one sister, Louise (Richard) Davis of S.C.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two children, James Jr. and Ann Marie Flores, and one brother Walter.

Always a caring and generous soul, Joan will surely be missed by all who knew her.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 4, at Proko Funeral Home from 11 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at Noon. Interment will follow at St. George Cemetery.
