John Lienau Obituary

John William Lienau

1958 - 2012

John William Lienau, 53, of Amarillo died on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012.

A celebration of life will be held at Chutes and Ladders on Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at 5 pm.

John was born on Dec. 10, 1958, in Kenosha, Wis., to Jack Pops and Maxine Mimi Lienau. John was known by many names from his friends and family. Some of which were Caveman, Uncle John, Johnny Hop, Bucko, and Johnny LaRue.

John became a journeyman carpenter in 1978, after serving a five year apprenticeship. He not only worked in all phases of residential construction, but he also worked in commercial construction. He was a millwright for thirteen years building factories for Bane Nelson in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Michigan. Some of the factories included Ocean Spray, American Motors Corp., Abbot Laboratories, and Pleasant Prairie Power Plant.

He owned his own construction company, Lienau Construction, for 10 years. He also helped complete the interior sheeting on the Amarillo Globe News Center for the Performing Arts. In June 2010, he attended schooling in Dallas and became a licensed independent adjuster. He was currently working with his nephew, Jimmy Dewitz, of 4 Js Construction, LLC.

Another passion of his was cooking. John was known in Kenosha, for starting the Lean-To Saloon and the Rib Crib where he brought Texas Barbeque to Kenosha.

John was a devoted Green Bay Packer and Wisconsin Badger fan. He rarely missed watching the games with his Pops, family, and friends. He also loved watching his oldest great-nephew, Jackson, play sports.

Survivors included a father and mother, Jack and Maxine Lienau, of Amarillo; a sister and brother, Debbie Dewitz and David Lienau, of Kenosha; a nephew and niece, Jimmy and Candy Dewitz, and two great-nephews that he adored, Jackson and Koen Dewitz, of Amarillo, and many friends and family of Amarillo and Kenosha. Uncle John will be truly missed and never forgotten!

A celebration of life will be held at Chutes and Ladders in Kenosha on Monday, Dec. 10, 2012 at 5 p.m.
