Jan. 26, 1952 - July 1, 2024
SILVER LAKE - Mona Elaine Yott, nee Dudash, previously Mona Shannon, of Silver Lake, WI., passed away July 1, 2024, in Kenosha, WI. after a courageous four-year battle with cancer. She was born January 26, 1952, in New Castle, PA to Joseph R. and Ella Margarete Dudash. Mona graduated from Parkside College in Kenosha, WI in 1992 with a degree in English where she was awarded an Outstanding Feature Editor. She worked in the newspaper industry for over 20 years, lastly at the Zion-Benton News where she was the editor until the paper closed in 2017. She retired as a librarian at the Salem Community Library in Salem, WI.
Mona met Steven Yott of Silver Lake, WI in 2010 and the couple were married in September of 2015.
Mona was an avid reader and enjoyed British television. She looked forward to vacations in Door County, WI and Sanibel Island, FL. She found comfort spending time on the patio, watching the birds and tending to her flowers. Summer days were best spent cruising around with her husband in a 1967 Triumph with the top down and the wind in her hair. She cherished her time taking walks and going to lunch with her girlfriends. Mona's chocolate chip cookies were revered, and the recipe will live on in her memory. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend and will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
Mona is survived by her husband, Steven; her sons: Todd Shannon of Kenosha and Mark (Isabel) Shannon of Kenosha; her stepdaughters: Megan (James) Scola of Arlington Heights, IL and Mallory (Jason) VonRohn of Arlington Heights, IL; her grandchildren: Rue VonRohn, Ewan VonRohn and Kate Scola; and her brother, William Henry Dudash, of Butler, PA.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph R. Dudash; her mother, Ella Magarete Matteson; and her brother, Alan Richard Dudash.
