Raymond Camosy Obituary

Raymond James Camosy

April 3, 1950 - July 31, 2025

Raymond James Camosy, 75, of South Bend, Ind. (formerly of Kenosha, Wis.) passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2025, in his home and in the company of his wife and children. Ray was born on April 3, 1950 in Kenosha, Wis. to Remo and Louise (Ferraro) Camosy. He attended Washington Junior High and Tremper High School, graduating in 1968. On August 16, 1974, in St. Columba Church, Ottawa, Ill., he married Mary Ann Thompson, who survives. Ray is also survived by his children, Charlie (Paulyn), Bob, and Katie; his grandchildren, Jenie, Jonathan, Gina, and Thaddeus; and his siblings, Art (Diane Wilkinson) Camosy, Laurie (Morgan) Pearsall, Jean (David Himebrook) Camosy, and John (Debbie) Camosy.

A "Double Domer" and loyal son of Notre Dame, Ray received his BA in business from the University of Notre Dame in 1972. Forty years later, he received his masters in nonprofit business administration and taught Construction Management classes at Notre Dame as an adjunct professor from 2017 to 2019. He received two recognitions from the Notre Dame Mendoza College of Business: the Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh, CSC Founder's Award and the Recent Alumni Award. He retired as long-time President and CEO of Camosy Construction General Contractors.

Ray enjoyed astronomy, aviation, and photography. An epic story-teller, often too epic, Ray loved to share tales with family, friends, and unsuspecting strangers. Ray never met a pepperoni pizza he didn't like and was happy spending time in his basement organizing, tinkering, and coming up with thoughtful ideas for Christmas presents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2025 in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto at Saint Mary's College in South Bend, with visitation beginning at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ray's memory can be made to Ugandan Mission of the Sisters of the Holy Cross, Development Office, 200 Rosary Hall, Notre Dame, IN 46556, https://www.cscsisters.org/donate/ or to the Camosy Family Scholarship Fund at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis. (mention "Camosy Scholarship"), https://www.carthage.edu/giving/give-today/. Kaniewski Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Abad Family

Hi again! This is Marilou Abad and my previous message was sent but not complete. My condolences, Mary Ann, Charlie, Paulyn, Camosy family and to our dearest Jenny, Jonathan, Gina, and Thads! We got to know more about Ray (and Mary Ann) when you 3 older Camosy children would share your adventurous and fun summers with your grandpa and grandma- horseback riding and tutorial lessons to name a few! Such a generous heart!! Now that you´re all adults , except, Thads, do remember these beautiful memories with your grandpa!
Treasure them and do take time to be with your grandma Mary Ann! Missing you all! Your Grandpa Ray is now in peaceful, loving place greeted by our Lord Jesus, Mama Mary, and with a big smile (remember his smile?) from our brother, Deacon Ernie!! Sending our hugs from CA- Tita Marilou, Tita Marissa and Tito Tony

To the family and friends of Ray my deepest and most sincere condolences.
My memories of Ray go back to our days at Grant Elementary and Washington Junior High Schools in
Kenosha,Wisconsin. We used foot power those days to get to school and we met most of our classmates along the way. Ray was one of them. Over the course of our six grades we learn a lot about each each other our families, our classmates , etc. Plus we often were in each others class. Things I learned about Ray, he was funny, he was long winded in class, he could be argumentative, he was kind ,he loved his family and his church even at a young age.
In Junior high he must have had some one who had passed their drivers test so he was riding to school and I did not see him as often. From there he also went to a different high school.
It is so wonderful to see how well Raymond did in his life .
May all your memories of him comfort you at this time.
Ray rest in peace dear old friend.

Very sorry to hear this. I live in California, and on occasion I will read the Kenosha News on line, which is where I saw Raymond's obituary. My sympathies to Mary Ann, and to your children. He truly was a kind and generous person. I met Raymond's brother Art when I was 12 years old. He introduced me to Raymond. Together we played baseball, went swimming, played golf, and went to the movies. Those were great times.
I have lived in Southern California with my wife Suzanne, and our daughters since 1978. Please feel free to pass my email address [email protected] on to Art.
Thank you, and God Bless.
