Richard G. Ramsdell
1936 - 2014
Richard G. Ramsdell, 78, of Kenosha, died unexpectedly at his residence on Monday, Oct. 27, 2014.
He was born in Crandon, Wis., on Aug. 16, 1936, to the late Jesse and Mary (Kelnhofer) Ramsdell.
On Nov. 15, 1958, he married Margareta Maria Derstroff at St. Mary Catholic Church. They were blessed with raising four children and married almost 56 years.
After serving in the U.S. Air Force in Germany, he joined his brother at Ramsdell Mobil on the corner of 39th Avenue and 70th Street. He then was employed with Outboard Marine Corporation from 1966 to 1980. Following OMC, he joined AMC/Chrysler Corporation retiring in 1998.
A member of St. Mary Catholic Church, he was very active in many capacities including acting as the Funeral Acolyte, Eucharistic Minister, clock tower tinkerer and as a parish work camp leader. Richard was also a member of the Kenosha Serra Club. Richard was very active in supporting the Community of St. Paul and was a passive member of the MGV Harmonia Chorus. His faith and family were important to him. He will be remembered for his kindness and humor-always a smile.
Richard will be missed by his wife, Marga; his children, Carol (Rodney Fraser) Ramsdell, Patrick (Roxanne) Ramsdell, Paul (Gwen) Ramsdell, and Michael (Patty) Ramsdell; 15 grandchildren, Dan, Jourdan, Maxwell, Jack, Nash, Rory, Charlie, Terri, Robert, Jackie, Marga, Sarah, Adam, Samantha and David; and eight great grandchildren. He is further survived by a brother, Robert (Jean) Ramsdell and a sister, Joan (Frank, Sr.) Main.
Along with his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his siblings, Kathryn, William, Joyce and Jack.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 7400 39th Ave. Interment will follow in St. James Cemetery. A visitation for Richard will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 29, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Piasecki Althaus Funeral Home and again on Thursday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances to St. Mary Catholic Church, "Boiler Fund", or the Shalom Center of the Interfaith Network, 1713 62nd Street, Kenosha, WI, 53143, would be appreciated by the family.
