Shirley Madrigrano Obituary

Shirley M. Madrigrano

1925 - 2016

Shirley M. Madrigrano of Kenosha passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 6, 2016.

Shirley was born in Chicago, Ill., on Oct. 31, 1925, a daughter of the late Richard and Isabelle (Chaplin) Engdahl.

On Nov. 28, 1945, she was united in marriage to Joseph F."Pepe" Madrigrano. Sadly, he preceded her in death on June 16, 2012.

Shirley was a longtime member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church and she achieved the very rare Life Master designation in Bridge. She was also a member of the Italian American Ladies Auxiliary. In addition to being an opera aficionado, she enjoyed her ladies bowling leagues for years, cooking for her children and their children, and her lunches and dinners with friends.

Surviving Shirley include her six children, Joseph (Kathy) Madrigrano Jr., Glenn (Barbara) Madrigrano, Mary Joy Madrigrano, Karen (William) Isaacson, Gene (Kathy Segerstrom) Madrigrano, and Daniel (Jodi Puetz) Madrigrano; her stepson Eugene (Ellen) Brookhouse; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, and her sister, Phyllis Vincent.

Along with her parents and husband, Shirley was preceded in death by a grandson, Dario Roscioli; a sister, Lynn Trecroci, and her brother, Richard Engdahl.

A Memorial Mass to remember fondly Shirley's life will be celebrated on Monday, April 18, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. She was privately laid to rest next to her husband at All Saints Mausoleum. It was Shirley's wish that she be remembered not with flowers but with memorial remembrances directed to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 1919-54th St Kenosha, WI 53140; the Shalom Center 1713 62nd St. Kenosha, WI, 53143 or to the Boys and Girls Club Arts Foundation, 1330 52nd St. Kenosha, WI, 53140.

I was deeply saddened to read of Shirley's death. She was a beautiful lady. I'll always remember her kindness to me and to my husband, Jim Neilson (deceased) when we arrived in Kenosha and the "Leblanc family" in the 60's. She was welcoming, fun and witty. I'll also remember our many lively discussions about opera, concerts, books, etc! She was special.

Sincere sympathy to all the family.

Shirley often played bridge with my husband, Bill Erickson, or he'd give her a call and they'd chat for a while. He thought the world of her. They are now playing bridge in heaven.

Shirley was a woman who always carried herself with beauty and grace. I admired that about her. She always treated me as family. I'm sure she's smooching Pepe in eternal life.
