Lexington, Kentucky - Brian E. Buchanan, passed away at his home on February 5, 2023. He was born in Lexington, Kentucky on February 24, 1964 to Margaret Nevius and George LaVaughn Buchanan. He was predeceased by his father and his brother Richard LaVaughn Buchanan. He grew up in Lexington and was a graduate of Henry Clay High School, studied at the University of Alabama, attended the Patterson School at the University of Kentucky where he received a master's in international business, with a minor in Russian and East European politics. He's been a lifelong member of Crestwood Christian Church and he was an active member of the YMCA for many years. He was beloved by the residents of The Lafayette, where his mother currently resides. Brian traveled extensively with his mother when he was younger, visiting countries on six continents, and continued to enjoy traveling throughout his lifetime. He also enjoyed cycling with his biking friends, and hiking in the Red River Gorge and Raven's Run. He was certified to teach yoga and enjoyed scuba diving. He was the sole proprietor of Government Sales Alliance LLC and a consultant in law enforcement and military equipment sales. He previously worked for Galls, Inc., U.S. Cavalry, Armor Express and Instant Armor. Brian maintained relationships with his business associates through the years and many became close friends. Survivors include his mother, sister, Eleanora (David, deceased) Mauritson, Fairhope, AL; brother, Gregory Lynn (Jennifer Beth Briggs) Buchanan, Austin, TX; sister-in-law, Lorraine Buchanan, Plymouth, MA; nieces, Amy Eleanora Mauritson, Margaret Wilson Buchanan, Rachael Lynn Buchanan, Sarah Ann Buchanan, and Jessica Rose Buchanan; nephews Patrick Gregory Buchanan, Julian George Briggs Buchanan, Eric Buchanan Mauritson. Visitation will be held at noon, with Funeral service following at 1pm, Friday February 10, 2023 at Crestwood Christian Church, 1882 Bellefonte Drive, Lexington, KY 40503, officiated by Rev. Kory Wilcoxson. Burial will follow immediately following the service at the Lexington Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kerr Brothers Funeral Home on Harrodsburg Road. Brian was recently diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease and really appreciated the support and fellowship he found with the Lexington Area Parkinson's Support Group (bgparkinsons.org) whose meetings are held at Crestwood Christian Church. Memorial contributions can be made to this organization in his memory.

My condolences to the Buchanan family who were our neighbors on Glendover Circle for over 20 years. Brian was a friend and was helping my Dad with his diagnosis of Parkinson´s. Such a sweet soul.

It's hard to believe that a year has passed since Brian was taken from us. He had such a vibrant presence that his memory has hardly diminished at all. I will never forget the laughs we had singing the song from "Life of Brian". Although he was thought of fondly by the Bluegrass Parkinson's Alliance as a whole, he holds a special place for those of us in the tai chi group. Brian was a good dude and knowing him made my life a little bit better.

I went to school with Brian. Our names were close alphabetically and so we got to know each other that way. He was one of those people who exuded goodness. Always encouraging. Always kind. After school we lost contact like so many but later we would see him around Lexington from time-to-time. Then for the short season we were on social media we reconnected and he was again encouraging and kind. I now recognize that was the manifestation of the Holy Spirit in his life, and reading his obituary it shines through. So I am confident that absent from the body, Brian is present with the Lord. Smiling that "Brian Smile". Encouraging us to hang on a little longer. Until we are all reunited in Glory.

To say that I was stunned by the knowledge that Brian had departed this world would be a gross understatement. Though I have only known him for a short time as a fellow warrior against the ravages of Parkinson's Disease, I like to consider myself a friend. I grew to admire his intelligence and respect his ambition. My heart aches for his mother who must be suffering the most acute pain of loss. I hope she and all the family find some comfort. I'll miss you Brian.
