Charles D. Mitchell Jr.

October 13, 1945 - September 10, 2025

Lexington, Kentucky - He was born in Lima, Peru to the late Charles Davidson Mitchell Sr and Mary Carrick. He died at Central Baptist after complications from heart surgery.

He grew up in Lexington, KY where he attended University High School and The Darlington School in Rome, GA. He graduated from the University of Kentucky where he studied economics followed by Northwestern for a graduate degree in Banking.

Through the years he worked as Senior Vice President and Trust Manager at the Bank of Commerce. In 1982 he joined his father at Magna Graphic, Inc. and served as President until 1998.

Golf was the great love of his life. He was very fortunate to play at many amazing well- renowned golf courses across the United States as well as Ireland, Scotland and England.

He also loved the Arts and was very involved in several organizations over the years. He served as President of the University of Kentucky Art Museum and Interim Director at the Headley Whitney Museum. He also served as president and advisory council at the Living Arts and Science Center.

He found immense joy in recent years at Chechessee Creek Golf Club surrounded by his fun, devoted golf community.

He was preceded in death by his brother James (Jim) Mitchell.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sydney, his children, Charles Mitchell III (Kathryn); Leigh Truett (Thad) and their children, Camille, Camden and Charlotte; James Hamilton (Rebecca) and their children Grace and Drew Hamilton; Mollie (Scott) Absher and his children Taylor and Dylan Absher.

He will be remembered for his loving, generous heart, keen intellect, his love for golf, and his quick wit. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Visitation will be held Monday, September 15 from 4-6 PM at Milward - Broadway. The Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, September 16 at 11 am at Milward – Broadway with the Graveside to follow at Lexington Cemetery. www.milwardfuneral.com
